    Got the bike back....

So the 2 top mechanics at the Harley shop both rode my bike and they say nothing is wrong with it and they can't hear anything ....

Maybe there isn't anything wrong with it. How could 2 top mechanics be wrong?.
A louder set of pipes might help put your mind at ease.
it has become louder as I can hear it as I past full body trucks on the motorway each morning. Generally this is what happens even when there is nothing wrong with your bike. The sound bounces right off the truck and back into your ears. Bet you don't hear it if you go for a spin out on the Hay plains.

It has a loud set of pipes on it...
Not saying they are wrong , with the many years of them being Harley mechanics I don't doubt their work .... but from me riding it nearly every day and in the last two weeks having a noticeable noise come from the primary that wasn't there prior to two weeks ago I do suspect something isn't right.
As for the noise bouncing off the trucks prior to the two weeks I never herd it before have only herd the thump coming from the pipes.

When cruising if I look down towards the primary I can hear chain or bearing spinning..

So off with the primary case when I service it.

I do have a question : when the chain tensioner clicks up a stage to put tension on the chain would this cause the chain spinning noise to be louder as it has tension on it ????
My thoughts being loose chain no tension no chain spinning noise , tight chain with tension the spinning noise is herd

Reckon there would be more noise with a really loose chain than a really tight one.
The primary gasket is cheap, so is a pint/litre/quart of oil.
You could undo those screws and have a look in there, at least you would know.

Too tight can be noisy but it's really bad for the bearings, too loose and the chain will hit the case and make a racket as it eats its way out, you mentioned other symptoms earlier, what did the tech's have to say about the clutch lever varying on where the clutch takes up? These things will just keep going until something goes bang.

    Got to agree.

Too big rags, hold one over the end of each pipe then get down & see if you can pick it up.

    Got the bike back....

So the 2 top mechanics at the Harley shop both rode my bike and they say nothing is wrong with it and they can't hear anything ....
With the vibration I feel from 2100 rpm , I was told to ride in a lower gear than I have and have the revs up high they say 3rd gear at 60k's.
I must be labouring the motor and gearbox I was told.

Anyway a service is on the cards so ill pop the primary case and have a look.
Even my mum can hear the noisy spinning chain sound at idle.

Silly question but have you just fitted a screen?

Can you take to another dealer. I would not be happy with them just saying all good. Did they even take the primary cover off.  Good chance they just fobbed you off to save dealer money. ( but hope not)  did you ask them what they say the Normal sound is.  Take back, stand near workshop door to watch what they do. I do this alot of times, and keep asking questions. Also ask for in writing that nothing wrong.
    Good Luck.

I'm thinking just that ( taking it elsewhere )
No .. primary cover hasn't been removed.

I know from when I bought it to now that the noise is definitely there and the vibration wasn't there when I purchased it either..

    Just an update
I changed the oil in the primary , I didn't have time to remove the primary cover so a quick oil change it was...

The liquid that came out of the primary was a purple colour with a Metallic tinge to it , the drain plug magnet was pretty clean though...
I refilled it with penrite vtwin oil and no difference.
So I'm off over the next two weeks I'll be looking more into it

Hahaha, I gotta laugh because since I’ve had my dyna (4 years) I had a bell moto3 helmet, just recently got a Biltwell gringo, first ride out ‘oh Jesus, wtf is wrong with the transmission, what’s that noise, oh shit it’s gonna blow up’
Took it for a ride a week later wearing my bell, no sound.. seems the gringo lets through higher frequency sounds!

Yesterday I got around to removing the primary case , bung plug fairly clean...
Everything looks to be as it should , there is about 15mm of chain play.
Compensator bolt is tight no excessive movement in clutch pack...

I haven't had anything to do with these before
I will definitely look into the compensator..
What I have read and seen on YouTube vids it's pointing towards the compensator..
I took it for a ride today , now this happend a few times ..sitting at the lights in neutral then when selecting 1st gear it didn't clunk into gear 1st it was as it had no resistance and just fell in

I found this info on another site
Quote : It usually does not break or leave ya stranded. It wears over time. Mostly the ramps wear. That causes less/no spring pressure on the lower ramps = slop and noise. The center bore will also wear, causing vibration. The two combined put strain on the crank, primary and starter. You will hear and feel it before it leaves ya along the road
