Norwegian here, with an "aussie" Road King

    Hi guys,
    I'm Rick from Norway, and I recently purchased my first Harley. 
    My Road King has some kind of story, it was one of the 10 (nr 8/10) that were used as Torch relay during the Sydney Olympic Games. It was than shipped to USA, been there for 15 years and finally imported to Norway in 2019. It has 42k miles, drives perfectly and I'm pretty excited to own it now.

    Great find, only ever seen a couple come up for sale and they have asked stupid money, enjoy the bike, if you ever sell it, advertise it over here,

    You mean the "next summer season"? :D Here it's already in the minus side, the bike is now parked in the warm garage and can't leave the place
    It can happen some warm days (+ some degrees), so I still have some hope. Otherwise the season is over until march/april

    I tried to find out the color code, without success, any ideas?

    If you now the location of the others, please share :D I wrote to HD Australia but never got an answer
    Mine was not that expensive. I guess people were afraid of the "high" mileage (42000 miles). Not an issue in my opinion, so I got it for a price similar to what a RK Classic of the same year would cost, with half the mileage.

    Nice bike, you get any service history with it? At 42000 miles it would probably need new cam chain tensioner pads if they haven't already been changed.

    Rico87 Nice bike , I lived In Sydney when the 2000 Olympics were on.
    Also the guy who looked after all the Olympic Harleys & who kept them all going, was Marcus Wilson, He still works for Harley Davidson in Australia. you might be able to contact him, he is a nice chap.

    I don't have the service history unfortunately. I found the last owner in USA, and chatted a bit with him. He told me that my bike was bought by Walmart few years after the Olympic Games, which gave it to one of its manager as a bonus. He drove it for few years, before selling it to a retired truck driver who put the big mileage. According to the last owner (the dealer which exported to Norway) the bike was serviced regularly, and the tensioners changed. During the winter I will open and check, and I'll decide -eventually- if to upgrade to hydraulic tensioners.

    We had the  2000 Olympic torch relay go past my house ( within 40 mtrs)  NSW central Coast and never saw any Harleys, only  a Police escort & the motorhome and  Torch bearer.  Maybe they did not do all of the route.
       But  great colour, and history.
    Enjoy the ride.

    I took my time to remove the exhaust and open the cam cover, to check the tensioners and decide how to proceed for the next mod.

    Well, Christmas came early this year :D

    S&S Gear drive, 510 cams. 



    I'm also doing a fork rebuild, since one seal was leaking


    Few weeks ago I got an original seat



    Did a primary and transmission oil change, and ordered 2 unpainted saddle bags. I will keep those originals in a safe place, and drive around with others that ill be painted the same color

    The S&S gear drive cam's are good for trouble free , riding! that was always a pain having to check the cam drive tensioners and the inside one was more trouble to get to. I like Harleys for simplicity. enjoy.

    Did some mods to my RK Police Sydney 2000.

    Got a set of leather saddlebags (which will be used for daily-drive, don't wanna scratch the originals), sissybar and rack, removed the license plate bracket, mounted bags side guards, front and rear clear lens turning lights, kuryakyn long brake pedal and taillight visor, new led license plate light and that's about everything for now.

    Smart to remove the original Olympic saddle bags and other parts.
    Gear drive cams, nice.

    I do like the bike. I’m sorry though I just can’t get my head around removing and changing over all the parts that made it “what it was”. Where’s the “wow” over a coffee discussion about the bike when you go for a ride. Thousands of bikes out there over 20 years old and still look and ride like brand new. With your dedication and care, this bike should have been one of them.

    Interesting point Steelo.
    My 1970 KO Honda came with the original duck tail seat which is a  pretty fricken hard to get item  in original nick and you have to pay stupid dollars to get one if you can find one.
    I bought a replica one to use because I more than sometimes ride the bike and don't want to compromise the original one. The replica was dirt cheap, looks the part and no one has picked up on it being a replica.
    Not sure how collectable the Sydney 2000 road king  cop bikes will become, but you never know, there is perhaps a few athletes from then who are fattening up nicely now in middle age who yearn for a road king like they remember....back in the day.

    I appreciate your opinion, steelo. 
    I bought the bike to drive it, and I'm not interested in the wow factor. No mods will be irreversible, and if I want to have it original it takes me maybe 10 minutes and a couple of screwdrivers to do so.

    I don't know if there's any collectable value, but I'd like to keep the saddlebags in good shape. I can always repair/repaint the bike if a minor accident happens, but it would be a pita to re-do the bags.

    I'm planning a Euro trip in june, and yes the bike will be in original condition while travelling. Not worth the stress in the home-to-office drive in my opinion...

    In fact, I'm looking for a police-seat and the other police "amenities" (siren, lights...) to get the bike in full Sydney 2000 mode :D

    Bring your bike to Australia and ride around the country, you will have a great time.
