Replacement Neck sections

Hi to everyone & its been a while since I posted a question or comment.
I'm currently looking for a replacement neck for an older shovel frame I picked up at a swap meet.
Problem is its fairly busted up & was bought as a potential Chopper / bobber /resto build.
The rest of the frame is recoverable due to the level of damage & age of the frame. (earlier than 1980 stat write-off doesn't apply)
The neck has sustained damage & the numbers are missing. i.e. chunks of metal gone.
So I heard there was reproduction necks available but all the units I've seen on eBay & various sites are like US$350 & up. Some at $450 plus extra there's the expensive shipping out to Australia., jigs , welding, engineering, etc.
For a little extra I can buy a complete frame made locally or an imported aftermarket USA frame
Problem is I want an older frame so I can run under older rego laws. A new frame would mean new build laws, Not Shovel laws, if you get me.
I'm hoping someone out there has or knows of a frame or parts of a frame that I can purchase & get shipped to me.
Preferring a pre-68 to a later. However I'm interested in any options that come to me.
Either responding to this post or by PM will get my response.

Hi "Shovelhead80",a quick question...to me it sounds like you have a Shovel engine laying around awaiting a project...
Would you be doing the neck replacement job yourself? Have you got a close up picture of the frame neck area and would you be able to post a front view of the frame(if possible level)?...
I might have some ideas if you are interrested..
    Cheers

The frame in question is buried at present, but I was able to have a friend look at it.
All it really needs is the cast neck section replaced.
However I am open to recycling the frame as a modified original.
Looking to move the neck section forward & up with a custom (&reinforced) head-stem section, along with dropping the seat area but maintaining rear suspension.
That is unless someone out there has a Shovel suitable, plunger suspension frame they are willing to do a swap with.
A repairable original frame should be able to pull some money but the Plunger rear frame may be a question asked but never replied to.

    Santee plunger frames looks pretty cool!not sure if they still manufacture them though...I was going to suggest you to get a local engineering shop around your way to manufacture a neck using your existing one as a template or have a quote,but it also might be an idea to check out those guys in the US,don't know them personally but they seem to have some good and affordable gear for a custom build ;

If you're looking for replacement castings check out hardtailchoppers.com
John does standard stuff or also raked versions / custom stuff. He's based in the US so the exchange rate is painful but I've been following his work for a while and it's top notch.
Also drop seat castings check out Jeff Cochran at speedkingracing.com

I did the calculations regarding getting a neck from the US.
    It just isn't worth it.
    In US$ it's approx the following. Neck $350-475, Shipping $50-100, Total $400-575 = A$600-900
Welding (incl jig & rego report) =A$200-350 & it could be more.
    Grand total A$800-1300 estimate.
For just a little more I can get a good frame or an engineered custom.
The exchange rate & customs kills off any real hope of doing a job at a reasonable price.

Looks like it's going to the rear of the shed & will wait until I can either afford it or can get hold of the parts needed.
