Ok, I know the tyre thing has been done to death but I can't find what I'm looking for on the forum so here goes.

I'm replacing the tyres on the missus' 1200 custom, 130/90 B16 on the front and 150/80 B16 on the rear, both Michelin Scorchers, I assume they're original equipment, worn and hard as a cats forehead.

The missus rides & corners hard so I'm after something that sticks to the road. Not too fussed about price or wear rate, just want something that's gonna hang on in the twisty stuff here in Tas.

I have a mate who rates the Michelins highly but just wondering if there's anything else out there worth considering.

I ran Dunlop 402s on my old sporty but it ran the 19 inch front. I found the Dunlops average and won't go there again.

Anyone here with experience on the 16 inch front & rear tyres particularly.

    Cheers.

Hey Roo Ted, well , I mostly have used Avon Cobra, but I just replaced the rear Avon cobra H rated ( 15k ) with a Bridgstone V rated Battle ax, much better handling feel & cornering as the shape & uses duel compound soft sides harder centre. but my old rigid motor mount sporty uses 130 90 16 rear & 19" front, but I had them on a Buell in 180 50 17" rear & 17" front they make in lot of sizes and this one was $180 so priced ok.

Many people tried to increase the rear tyre width (therefore talked a lot of sporty tire things). They generally grade Shinko 777 series high.
You could try Shinko 777 series 150/80-16.

I am using Shinko 777 170/70-16 (on stock 3" rim). I used HD (maybe Michellin??) 150/80-16 before (skid three times in the rain). Never skid on Shinko, could be the brand could be that I am using 170mm.

So, after doing a lot of reading online I settled on the Dunlop American Elites. Several reviews suggest they have better traction in all weather but particularly in the wet. Unfortunately only a life about half that of the competition around 8000kms,  she'll get a couple of years from that, no problem. I rode her bike home from the shop with the new tyres and took it on a few twisties to bed them in. It felt like shit. Too much understeer through the corners. A check of tyre pressuures the next day found them 3 to 4 pounds low front & rear. I haven't ridden it since but she seems happy. Only one request from the last ride, cut those nipples off the footpegs, apparently they scare the shit out of her when they touch the road though a corner. Nice work.

    Thanks for your advice guys.

The Scorcher31 tyres suffer from going hard too fast. Great tyre though when recently made. And way better than the HD Dunlops on a Sporty.
As Micathia wrote the wider tyre is a good idea. I’m going for the 170 wide too on my next tyre change.
