    Hey guys,
Ill be grabbin a new starter motor for the FXR soon, and have to decide between 1.4kw and 1.7kw.

Aside from the 'bigger is better' mentality, is there reason enough to go to the 1.7 over the 1.4?

    Some relevant specs:

CVO TC 110 motor (stock for now, but may be upgraded later, and Id consider the EZ start cams if they were any good)
I *should* be able to hook up the stock electronic compression releases.

Wiring will all be brand new, good grounds and cables.

The problem with the higher power starter is they drag the battery voltage down, especially with the smaller 17ah battery that fits the Fxr.
More importantly than power rating is quality of the starter sprag clutch.
I run an All Balls 1.4 kw on my built 120, and the starter never stalls , but the starter clutch can struggle.

Good point Speedzter, I read the bigger starter was more work on the battery but didnt consider the size of the battery in the FXR.
Allballs make a nice starter clutch so I reckon that and the 1.4kw should be suitable.

These guys have a good reputation in the US, but they are $$$ .

I mentioned in your other post that I am using the Electric Comp' releases and operating them manually .
