Reset speedo/tacho range calculation?

    gday all
this might be an odd question, and i can't seem to find an answer one way or the other, but can you reset or adjust anything surrounding how the speedo/tacho calculates its range? PART NUMBER: 74775-11B

the reason i ask is that i consistently get around 50k's (haven't tried pushing it further) more than what the end of the range tells me. i'm talking about once it stops even telling you an amount of k's and just says 'low range'. that's like 100k's extra once the fuel light comes on, as it comes on at 50k's left in the range.

i have read that they can be configured to different tank sizes, so i'm thinking maybe mine has been set to a smaller tank size by default or something - but i can't figure out how to change that in the settings anywhere

any insight would be greatly appreciated

noct, that is a dam good question.
I'll have a sqizz in my manual, but I dare say some enterprising person will let you know if ya can recalibrate the reserve to empty (start pushing!) numbers.

Yes it is a pain in the arse, took mine to 12k's left one day...still had 2litres of fuel when I filled the tank!

The book says: To disable this function while riding, press and hold the trip switch while in the fuel range display mode. The automatic range pop-up feature indicates that it is disabled when it blinks twice.

Your estimated KLMS remaining slowly counts down.
After a while it stops counting down and instead of remaining KLMS it now reads LO and maybe the fuel pump logo lights up on your dash.. That is the signal you are now on reserve. On my bike that means about 4 1/2 litres left in the tank.
Knowing how much fuel your tank holds is the key. When you get to the end of the range, fill your bike up. It is easy to work out how much fuel is in the tank when you know how much it holds.
In other words, the countdown is usually until reserve. Not push the bike to the servo.

Ah I see, that makes good sense! Though I do kinda wish the range was to empty, not to reserve

Does it have a tank lift kit fitted? That throws em out. I believe the fuel consumption and range is not done in real time, but is am average over the last few tanks.
Hopefully someone else qith more expertise will chime in.

nah no tank lift and i was under the same impression with regards to the average - my feeling was it is holding onto an average that is no longer accurate since having a better tune put on, but i've done 1000's of k's since then and consistently get far more k's than the range reckons. what far canal said about it being distance to reserve seems to make sense given what i'm seeing.
