Penrite every time. HD don't own oil factories - Penrite gives Australians jobs.  We have nearly fucked or sold off every old Oz industry. Support the one's left that are still Australian owned and provide a world standard product.

You can also buy it (Penrite)from Supercheap for a bargain when on sale

Every 5,000km i do my engine oil and filter.  Every 10,000 i do tranny/primary. Every 2,500 I do airfilter.  Easy to remember as the numbers are all rounded.

Interesting to know, unfortunately my Low Rider is only averaging about 2000km per year.

Bloody nora, just sell it then.. You would still need to replace the oil annually though regardless of mileage would be my thinking.

I get yah point... but Harley import their oil and sell at say $45 for a gallon.  Penrite is made is Australia and STILL costs a chitload more than Harley oil.  Some would say support the local manufacturer but others could equally argue that they need to also be cost competitive.

Haha, nope, Supercheap and Auto-one specials make it pretty decent price wise, get caught out occasionally, stings a bit then.

I run the Penrite full synthetic racing 20 w 60 in the donk, Bellray in the primary, 10w40 I think and 75w90 Nulon slick shift in the gearbox.
I believe the oil is far superior to HD Syn 3 and that is why is costs more.
Cheap oils are just that cheap and made to a price, poor base oil, poor additive package, low themal stability etc. Which mean shorter oil change intervals to avoid wear, so it probably actually not cheaper, or suffer accumulating wear and tear running to the full service interval.
I used to have a very good oil analysis  test report on a wide range of oils, some of the results were a suprise.
Spend a shitload buying the bike, more on engine mods, and then  cheap out on maintenance? Not me, she has to last me another 20 years or so.
By it on sale as stated, and it isnt to bad.
4 litres of each and a filter will be cheaper than the dealer doing the service.

I also bypass the return oil till it runs clean, usually just over a litre of dirty oil, otherwise you are only changing about 3/4 of the oil.

So what type of penrite do you use?  Which product?  Generic one, not interested in full synthetic

I used to use mineral oil myself until I read a few different reports. Synthetics will just outlast mineral based oils, they are more stable and can handle the higher temperatures before the molecule chains break down into something else. That just results in poor lubrication and the fact that most Harley are just oil/air cooled dinosaur designs means that on a warm day they get way hotter then most modern engines. The temperature of the engine oil can change considerably which creates even more of an issue.
For the extra cost I wouldn't skimp, especially moving into the warmer months.

I use a 20w 60 because of the temps up here, owners manual has that info, Harley don't have a  20w 60, guess they figure you will use something else, penrite have a 20w 50 they specify along with a few others, even a 70 for worn old bangers.
Not trying to convert anyone, people use what they like mostly.

I was recommended Penrite HPR Gas.  10W 50  I think from memory.
I think its semi synthetic. Its designed for LPG motors which supposedly run hotter than normal. Like a Harley.
Been using it for about six years now and surprise surprise  no issues. My take on it is we all overthink the oil thing.
Any recognized brand of oil changed regularly should be fine. I put the Penrite full synthetic stuff in the car only because
it eases my conscience a bit when I leave it in there for 15000ks or more. It definitely lasts longer than mineral oil.
Perhaps we should start a thread about  Bad Oils.  Is there such a thing?

Full synthetic, same as Grease Monkey and for the same reasons, hot up our way and I have yet to fit an oil cooler.

Me Too. Engine oil talking about.
    Penrite that is
    Have a few variety's- change at 5 K intervals
    Full Synthetic
    Semi Synthetic
    Diesel
I alternate between Syn, Semi and mineral which may be diesel or just old fashioned plain .
Reckon changing with filter on regular basis if ridden or not is the go, with filter and the scavenger , will help prolong the internals.
Let's face it, anything that may help keep ya bike healthy and on the road has got to be a plus.

Gearbox I do like redline, when can get it easily change out once a year, or if bored.
    If not Penrite 75 -90

Primary I use semi synthetic as had a coupla issues when used synthetic.. Beats me why..
change out once a year too or more often if I feel like giving her a tickle and a look in now and then.

Pretty sure my manual states to use diesel type oil of the correct viscosity if you are in need of a top up and can't get to a dealer.  Probably to do with the detergent and additive package.
