Over Thinking

    Hi Guys

Wife is OS and I'm bored.
Haven't had a ride in the shed for 2 years and was thinking it would be a nice surprise when she gets back!!!

As like most of us started with trail bikes then progressed to road bikes with the last being a big naked.
I must admit a sudden stop a number of years ago as still left me a little shaken and the idiots on the road leave me wondering if it's worth the risk.   But I suppose why let other stop you enjoying what you want.

I'm looking at Road Kings but:

    # 2009 saw a big improvement to the frames so this discount all pre 2009?
    #  103 came in 2013 so is it that much better than 96?
    #  2014 and we get the high output version
    # and 2014 onwards may get you linked brakes so do we discount all those without?

I know go out and ride but the problem is I don't know many people with RK and they tend to be protective at the least.
I am happy to hire a bike from Eaglerider for a couple of days but all of theirs are 107 and this may skew the experience.

Budget is always important and I'm over dropping big bucks on new just to lose the depreciation.  So I'll be looking around the $19K mark.

Anyhow waitout for some more repetitive questions.

Simple answer, a 2010 onwards will see you get a bike that wont want to try kill you. 103 vs 96 not a great deal of difference in power on the heavy jiggers. $19k will see you with a decent bike .

For under and around 19k there are decent 2014-2016 Rushmore road kings available with mileage that isn’t high. I’d go for one of them without a doubt. I had a look on bikesales.com.au and no doubt there’ll also be good deals on gumtree and Facebook. It’s very much a buyers market so no harm in offering 19 for bikes priced in the twenties
I like your thinking to go out and buy a bike while the mrs is away haha

Hi Kenif, Welcome to the forum. Good to see you joining with some upfront questions. Good advice so far, there are some great buys out there, hopefully you’ve got a bit of time to find a bargain. Cheers

Good bloody idea. Get a second hand RK while Mrs is shopping OS.
    Welcome mate.
I updated my last Harley to current Harley when Mrs. was at work.
Just said come into garage I want to show you something I did to my bike.
Transformed from a Fat boy to a Road Glide, no drama at all.....
Just keep aware and switched on while riding, you'll be cool.. As the boys have said you"ll get a beautiful RK for that $'s.

I’d say it’s genius thinking! Buy the bike while she’s OS - love it..... As you say, what a lovely surprise! Good advice here. Get one after the frame update, take a ride on it, look over it, take someone with you if you can who has a clue. One thing is for sure....your choice of a Road King is solid gold.....legendary bike. And welcome!

    FAIL!!!!!!!!!

    I failed.
    Things got away from me.
Combination of paralysis by analysis and the fact that there are so many bikes out there for good prices.

I did test ride and confirm my liking for a King.
I looked at dealers but fell short of contacting private sellers because I didn't want to dick them around.

I have also just come off a 12 month sabbatical and was supposed to start work next week but this has been delayed and I am wary of over committing myself.

Anyway thanks for the input to date.
    Dream not over just delayed.

As far as the missus is concerned I am not too worried as she has just spent over 6 weeks in Europe therefore I reckon I have more than enough points saved up!

Looking for recommendation to transport from Ipswich to Melbourne and then someone close to Balwyn for initially RWC and then trusted partner in maintenance.

I expect that sometime next week I'll be riding!!!!!

It appears as though pricing is pretty standard at $475 but I do have one at $575.
The extra pipes and jack stand cost +$200.

I still have to check a few things but one company can do a pick up early next week and deliver om 4 Feb 20.

Everyone else seem at least a couple of weeks.
I'll pay extra for sooner gratification.
