    After peoples thoughts.
Just done the trike conversion on rear end to an independent suspension number and now turning my attention to front end to make it steer a bit better.
What does everyone think would be better, a raked tree or springer front end?
From what I can see they both achieve the same result or am I missing something?

Seems they don't exist, not for an '18 Road King at least.
If you  guys know something different please share. I was thinking of going +4" springer but can't even find that only standard length.

Have you searched “Springer conversion” in the forum?
    Some info there.
It’s not an easy job and Springer front ends add more stress to the head stem than you might think.

    Thanks for the input guys.
I'll post some pics when I get the finished product. Might take a while yet, still haven't even painted the rear end.

With a Springer front you will lose any ABS option. Any Springer front from any manufacturer. HD have not had a Springer since 2009.

Supposed main reason is/was non ABS compatible. ( that and Springer front ends are waaaay more expensive than any Showa telefork setup !)

Problem is this is integral to your ECM. Very least is you will have a brake warning light in the dash and a recurring fault code forever.

I've been told I can run ABS on a DNA springer, my problem is in QLD if a safety feature is there before you start a mod, it has to be there when the mod is completed AKA must have ABS.
I ran into this problem with rear ABS on the 3 wheel conversion.

Thanks, yeah. I can get the tree no problem, it's just the cost is about the same and I like the look of the springer. I was just wondering if there was any real advantage to either to make the trike a little easier to handle. I got quite a shock when I took the trike around the block for the first time, I knew it would be different but wasn't expecting such an impact.

A trike will ALWAYs have a different handling characteristic regardless of the forks used.  Just get used to what you have and perhaps look at Progressive updates for the current setup.

I wouldn't recommend DNA springers, cheapest ones on the market for a reason. I know nothing about hooking up ABS but I would be contacting Meatballs Springers for a repop OEM style one and they're available in all lengths. I've got one of both and they don't compare in terms of looks or quality.

I'll bet you did ! How did you get around that one ? ABS all to do with pickups/senders on the hubs I do believe

To cut a looong story short , I bought a "new bike take-off" 2012 Softail Standard/Custom complete tele front end. Triple trees/forks/headlight/fender/21" wheel/caliper etc

I got the new rear fender as well , as he had a Limited Edition Factory Custom paint set put on the bike as the same time. One of those 40 odd grand Harleys you used to hear about !! Sadly he had sold the original black tank some time previously. I FILLED my ute from his garage on a NOS clearout session "inspired" by his missus haha...

In 2012 the dude had Frasers fit a new Springer front before delivery. Frasers had MEGA problems involving the ABS (amongst other glitches !) , told him they LOST money on the deal/conversion , and that all Frasers stores country wide were to NEVER take on the job again.

That was a genuine Chrome HD springer front end with 21" Springer specific wheel , Springer specific front fender and headlight AND Springer caliper.

Bike had the ABS light permanently on ! (Covered with electrical tape square apparently !)

The dude had to sign a waiver stating he had requested and paid for the conversion even after Frasers tried to "talk him out if it" ! I kid you not !

The guy that made the kit (IMC Trikes) got a sender and pick-up unit from Harley and incorporated it into the kit, all I had to do was change the plug to fit my bike.
My understanding of the front is that the sender unit is incorporated into the bearing on one side of the wheel so I can't see why there would be a problem, all you need is clearance to install the pick-up which is basically just a spacer with wires coming off it.

Springer on a current model Softail- built by Geelong HD. Would have to assume they kept the ABS but cannot confirm.

Geelong HD "dealer build" bike. Deffo aftermarket as no chrome "shockie". Interesting Re the ABS and it's continuance in use ?

I would like to know the definitive answer to that one

As posted earlier , the supposed main reason HD do not do a factory Springer any more is ABS will not work with a Springer front end.

That's from the US forums many moons ago ! Springer has been gone 9 years now from the HD lineup , folks forever asking why ??

I could see how a "kit" of some sorts would allow ABS to still work on a rear convert to trike setup.

Two of my older riding mates here in Perth WA have well built trikes on Ultra donor bikes , both ABS aged bikes , no dramas with them.

Plenty of room under a trike body for "additions" , not so much leeway on front ends

I believe it is a Queensland thing, for now at least, that safety features have to remain. I would imagine it will filter to the other states over time.

Looks like I'm going to just settle for either a 7 or 9 degree raked tree which keeps the ABS as is.
