    Hi all,
Just recently joined these forums and whilst I don't have a HD at the moment, I am looking to buy one in just over a month.  Love the look of the Fat Boy but friends tell me I should consider the Breakout, I need a very low seat height as I am 5 foot 7 and also have a strict budget of $30,000 plus GST.

I do have personalised number plates LO110 that I registered several years ago but I don't think they will match anything from the 2019 range.

Disclaimer: I currently own an Indian Scout but please don't hold that against me.

Certainly not a plug for them but I was at MCAS in Dandenong and saw they are now selling Harleys. The guy said it was the first store in Aust to do so. Anyway the prices weren’t bad. I reckon they’d be keen to get some runs on the board. Go haggle....

Hi guys, thanks for your replies so far.
I have been researching the HD range all day and trying to find a model I like with low seat height to match.  So far and in this order I am steering towards looking at the Fat Boy (favourite looking), Breakout (low seat height) Softail Slim (lowest seat height but the look doesn't appeal to me) and finally the Road King Special.

Just not sure which to purchase but will get a much better idea when I throw a leg over each of them, and MCAS Dandenong is closest to where I live so will have to check them out.

They got a nice Softail Standard that I have my eye on. (If only the minister for finance would concur.)

Welcome to the forums mate. Don't rule out the fat boy purely on seat height, don't forget you can lower the bike and/or replace the seat. I personally would rather get the bike that I love and modify it to suit my needs.

Test ride them all and go with the one you like the best. Me I went the breakout and love it.

Go with the Breakout, the FatBoy just looks plain wrong to me.

Or go upmarket and get an XR1200 Sporty....Not many other Harleys would keep up and you will have a lot of left over cash for modding!

    Hi and welcome.
If you base your purchase solely on your comfort and how it rides, you can’t go wrong. After all, you can’t see the bike when you’re riding it.

Yes agree - XR 1200 is a bit of a unique Harley - loves a corner !!   As for modding, Pipes, Ohlins, Corbin seat, maybe breather / screen and u are pretty well setup.

    Hi all,
Thanks for the replies so far.  I have been doing more research and will be doing the rounds this afternoon.  Whilst I will throw a leg over a number of HD's including the 1200 series but it is the Fat Boy & Breakout that still appeal the most to me.

Would it be fair to say that long distance travel would be more comfortable on the Breakout v's the Fat Boy?

I rode my Fatboy from Melbourne to Bright and back in the one day last November for the Hot Rod show.   Rode with a mate from work (07 Heritage Softail 96 cube).   It ended up being over 700 kays by the time I got home.   The Fatty was alright long distance.  But if I was going to do more I'd change the seat.   I was pretty saddle sore by the end of the day.   I got the same fuel mileage as the Heritage too.

I notice you mentioned Road King earlier.  That would be the best long distance off your list.
As some others said. Do some test rides AND being a Harley, you can tailor the bike to fit you how you like, at a price of course!
