Thanks guys, ended up getting everything out using the gasket kit with sealant together it came out look absolutely beautiful without a drop of oil coming out! Now just to replace the rectifier and she is all done!

Also I didn't buy it I bought a 650cc about 2 years ago for 3000 and have been swapping and trading it up making money until i finally gave a bloke 2000 and a suzuki gs1250s for it so I didn't care if I needed to fix it up a bit. I'll end up putting a S&S in it later anyway. So in my eyes it was an absolute deal.

Looks like the previous owners fucked another thing. Thought the regulator was fucked but it's not even plugged In. Is there anyway of fishing out the other stator wire without undoing all the work I just did on the primary and inner primary??
Also just In case I end up saying fuck this cunt of a bike. Does anyone know where to get a good cheap belt drive kit from? I figure it might be ugly but it's the next best fix for the cracked lip. Might just replace the stator and do a belt drive to fix everything at once fore good.  Any ideas lads?

Stator plug is a common thing for being a problem   more of a age thing   , you can change it
With out having to take  the inner primary off  but rest yep gotta come off. Save the oil
And reuse the gasket  you can normally take the  outer primary of multiple times
Before you need to change it anless you coved it in goop

Inmho fuck the belt drive kit only look good on a true chopper my2c
    Less maintenance and noise two

Yeah, common fault. Had my socket & plug replaced few years back.
Don't despair, these old bikes take a little while to get to know, you will eventually sort out the little issues they have & renew or make improvements. There are still a lot of stock parts around if you know where to look, and endless after-market options.
It took me a couple of years to straighten things out - I now know just about every nut & bolt on the WG, and know what used to vibrate loose (a little Loctite here & there). You will end up with a well maintained machine that will bring you much joy. You will have the satisfaction of having old Evo WG rumbling away whilst eating up the miles.

Well And truly cooked , looks like that inner primary has been welded up at
Some stage of its life   Maybe due to loose chain  , when u put. It back
Together use permatex or loctite aviation gasket sealant on the
Primary gasket  that way if you need to go in there again you won’t
Need a new gasket   And u can use  them several times before there  ratshit
That one looks a bit ratshit , Put some slaz around the new
stator plug grommet before you push into the
Hole  and wipe of the excess some times they can leak there too

Make sure you clean the hole and sealing surfaces with metho or the silicone and permetex will not seal.
Keep at it mate, it'll come good.
Probably should check ur wheel bearings too :)

Alternator grommets and regulator plugs age and harden that is a given, the removal and installation of the grommet is best done with glass cleaner .On installation the case receptacle has to be clean of anything oily, the fit of the grommet supply's the sealing. Do not use silicon that has acetic acid as its activator, acetic acid eats copper, this is nearly every silicon that is readily available ,use neutral cure silicon if you really have to but clean and glass cleaner is best, .
I have seen grommets and regulator plugs with the tin plating of the terminals still in place and the wiring turned into copper carbonate inside them.

Never thought of glass cleaner Hoody I have always used metho on sealing faces.
I'm pretty sure Fish tank silicone is ascetic acid free.

Thanks for all the help fellas, replaced the whole charging system and is working a treat now also installed a baker 5 speed. Now to just sort out the carb as it's leaking fuel and sort out this base gasket leak. Does anyone know a HD next near Bathurst NSW? I think the base gasket might be better of in a professionals hands ??

Well done, you're well on your way now!
If you clean the carb up while still running it on the bike can you see the area where it is leaking from?

It's only leaking from the over flow but it's leaking a good amount, I'm guessing it's a float needle? I've been turn the fuel off after a ride and it's still leaking so it might have more under lying issues. It's a mikuni carb on it.
Also just a quick thank for all the help fellas!

No mikuni guru but you can still get kits for them, given all the issues you have found and conquered so far I'd be inclined to strip it, sounds like the petcock is suss as well, while your at it :)
On your base gaskets, it will cost a bit to get a shop to do it properly, you seem pretty competent, don't fancy doing it yourself?

Haven't dealt with a Mikuni carb, I have the HD stock CV carb on mine, overhauled & tuned it couple of times with a kit no bother. Think you're on the right track guessing needle not seating.
I ditched the fuel petcock a long tine ago, when they're old they get issues with the vacuum/hose not activating as should, replaced mine with a Golan - straightforward, no more dealing with vacuum.
I get people pointing at the carb on my WG - it fascinates them.

Agreed on the base gasket. Easy job.
