Yeah could be, just need two eager bidders.
The bike certainly has good provenance.

$267,000 US is the top price ever paid for one. It was 1 of 3 prototypes.
In all there were 7414 sandcasts made before they were die cast. No doubt a lot of them got written off as they had a habit of breaking chains and smashing the engine cases, as well as sometimes killing the rider.

A friend of mine whom I consider something of a Honda4 guru, not sure how many he has, reckons it’s not perfect i.e. the brake resovoir looks like a replacement, but still considered it a bit if a holy grail, so yeah, I’m wondering how much it might go for.
To bid or not to bid, that is the question.

I dont profess to be an expert but i am sure the reservoir is std, the speil gives away that the baffles are non genuine

There is a sandcast only forum in the US. These blokes are pretty clued up/anal about all the changes that happened with the sandcast models. Honda was kind of making it up as they went (hence the sandcast)  and there were lots of changes on the way. No doubt this bike will be getting the 3rd degree on that forum and you can prolly join up just like that.If you want more info.
I have only heard of a few in Australia and they have all been imported from US. However it would not surprise me if there was a few old shitters sitting in sheds somewhere here that's owners are not even aware of what they have.

Sorry i was referring to this line in the ad................. Other replacement parts are the exhausts: the original inners rusted out and were replaced with a set of Lotus-Roots from Yamiya in Japan (that cost far more then the original bike did). It has been run on ethanol-free gas only.

    My mistake.

I am thinking that the seller is well aware of the type of buyer and therefore being very honest regarding the bike and deviation from non genuine.

Re the brake master cylinder, I thought they were naked alloy, not black, but I just checked out a bike on the Vic World website, and apparently he is the Sandcast guru, and the bike on his site has a black master cylinder,

It's a beautiful bike, if only you had the foresight 20 years ago, there's a guy in the States who specializes in these bikes, Vic World,

Yeah the master cylinders were black but faded rapidly to the bare look. As this one is perfect glossy  black and with about 40,000 Ks on the speedo you’d think it’s recoated or an update, not that it’s a major issue.

I think they were anodized black originally ?

I was a curious looker with this one maybe 7-8 years ago. Then drank lots of beer and put the highest bid on for it in a drunken stupor. Bid did not hit the reserve price, however was able to haggle with the seller to score it. Not a sandcast, a diecast but could sell it for way more now. Plus it is a hoot to ride!.

You might be right there speedster. Just took this picture(in the dark with a flash) of the one on my 70 model. It has faded to a strange coppery colour but you can see where I'm holding the rubber boot back it is still black underneath.

Yes think you are correct,  thinking it was more of a early form of powder coating before they worked out UV light damage
