seat/rack mounting - just me, or is it dumb design?

on my old (05) Dyna, the seat mounting socket was secured to the fender so I could unscrew it to get to the battery etc without any panic. I discovered the other day that my MY18 Streetbob the socket is held on by a tiny little clip which ... had fallen out so the damn socket fell out of the fender when I went to plug the connector for my gloves in! 20 mins scrabbling in the gutter to find it, then a pain to hold it in place so I could screw everything down was not appreciated... (if you were in Melbourne for the downpour on Saturday you know what I mean, glad I had a torch with me)
just got a solo luggage rack and looking at the pieces... same dumb design, the socket that goes under the fender for everything to screw into isn't secured to the fender so if I remove the bolt to get under the saddle, guess what's going to happen.

I'm assuming the answer is a dab of loctite on the socket to stick it up onto the fender (unlike my Dyna there's no easy on/off removable rack so I won't be taking this off when I don't need it) or has anyone get better clever solutions (that don't involve manufacturing a whole new custom fender, as that'll cost more than a drop of loctite!)

I'm starting to wonder if anyone at H-D HQ actually uses (or works on) their own bikes, or if they just buy BMWs now!
