    hi,

I am in need of a wheel bearing puller / installer tool to borrow please
short story, put a new rear tyre on during the week and noticed the bearings have a bit of play so did not want to put all back together only to take apart again let alone worse
I picked up new bearings today however need the tool to remove & install the new ones.
Im in Melbourne and theres a bottle of Wild Turkey or JD for the loan of the tool (a couple of hours is all id need it for)
    please PM me

i'm no expert, but read the relevant manual for your bike as to which bearing to instal first.
on my lowrider one goes in first [ cant remember which but sure its the disc side ] this one goes in till it bottoms in the hub and the other side goes in till it bottoms on the spacer.this maintains the correct location of caliper to the brake disc.
did mine with a length of 3/4" allthread and larger washers against the hub and washers that pulled against the OUTER race of the bearing need to get a washer that neatly fits on the bearing recess then wound them in,you can " feel " when the bearings reach their position.
    not hard to do.
knocked the old bearings out with a large drift.
others might have better ideas,if you can get the right tools it will be easier.

    Thanks Bruce,

I use the drift method on my dirtbike and have cut two slots on either end of the spacer tube that sits between the bearings to make it easy.

This, on the other hand Ive tried to push the spacer tube a little sideways to get a bit on the bearings but  no go hence the call out to borrow one of the tools.

Once I get them out I will be making the same notch in the tube as on my dirtbikes cause it makes life so much easier.

Why did I have to do this on a long weekend !!!!

I had rear bearing fail a little while ago
Found a guy who pulled the bearings out. He had one type of tool but wasnt able to get it to work

So welded on bar and knocked out, then knocked out other side

yep ,understand the problem, make sure the drift tip is clean and sharp edge, then angle the drift to the inner race edge then drive in till the spacer moves, takes a bit of skill, learnt after many years on the tools, good luck.

i ended up welding a tab across and used an extension bar to hammer it out

frustration got the better of me

    thanks for the input !

my dirtbike was never this difficult..
