After a 1996 FXD, an 2003 Ultra and now a 2011 FXDC I might be ready for another bike. Need some help making up mind. Spent some money on the FXDC - saddlebags, forward controls,Progressive shocks, spring cartridges, handlebars, Corbin seat, supertrapp 2-1, TSS and some more chrome stuff. Happy with it but would be interested in a couple of things like ABS (mine is last year without), LED lights, cruise control and certainly could use a bit more torque. First three are hard/impossible to retrofit on the FXDC. Fourth item of course is easy to add to the FXDC - but do I do that - and maybe a nice custom paint job - or go for a new ride?
Had a look at the new models. first negative - no more dyna. I always liked the dyna's - classic looks, reasonably nimble and comfortable. So of the rest I'm looking at maybe a deluxe or road king. Hate the ones with the fat rear tires - took out a fat boy and that thing didn't like to go through corners at all. Also not that sure about the motor. Felt a bit soulless - could improve with pipes of course

The Deluxe has nice styling (minus these crappy blinkers!!) - but needs cruise control, saddlebags and some chrome to finish things off. Road king only needs some chrome. (But I don't like the new panniers - I really want leather!!)

Both of course would need a TTS or similar tuner, pipes and air cleaner.

now the questions - is the stock suspension on the new softail good enough - comparable with what I have today? How about the stock seat - any good?? Motor - given a 107 with pipers and stage 1 - does that give me more low end power over what I would get from the FXDC with some 204's or the likes??

Any recommendations - or opinions welcome!!

    thnx

I agree, the new bikes are soulless creations. Overall, from what you wrote, leather bags etc, I’d look at a late twin cam Heritage. Put in an SE255 cam, very comfortable ride and they don’t mind corners.

I had a good look around the dealer on Saturday and the thing that stands out about the current range is just how uninspiring they are.  It was an underwhelming experience and I would be sad to have to be in the market for a new Harley.
have you looked at Indian?  They have some bitchen deals at the moment.

Your mods you've done suggest that you'd love a Road King Classic, but... A current Road King is a fine bike. I just went from a awesome 2011 RK to a 2019 SG. My opinion is that all that 'character' stuff is BS. The 107 is a way better motor than a Stage 2 103 TC up to 3000rpm, where 99% of your riding is done. The stock pipes have a nice rumble so mine just has a SE airbox and a tune.
The Rushmore tourers are just a lovely touring chassis and the Showa cartridge fork doesn't need touching. I'm only 1000km into the bike but I really like it. I did an anti-transfer mod to the clutch and a anti-sumping mod to the venting system but it's mechanically stock.

Ride a few 2019 tourers mate, you only appreciate them out on the open road. It's your cash Bro, buy what YOU like, not us gooses. :-)

Heritage classic, leather bags, 107 or 114, open bike with the added safety abs

or you can buy the old bikes that someone has already moved on from,

new bikes have no soul, is like saying there is a god or I have a winning system in roulette.
shovel owners said the same thing around the evo, then the twincam, then the ........all the way to the M8

get a ride on a couple new bikes and then compare

I would like a model T, a 36 chev and a 53FJ but would not be a fit to my current vehicle

Consider a dyna low rider s. Ticks most of your boxes and add an aftermarket led headlight for about $100 and get some bags. Torquey , quick, nimble, has soul, twin disc brakes, reasonably good oem suspension, has abs and cruise control etc. Good fun bike. The 117 kit makes them a lot of fun

Times 2 , looked and looked and can't find another harley thats  such a good allrounder , striped down look good ,  put on a sundowner seat , luggage rack and screen and you have a comfortable tourer , like you said twin discs , torquey , and nimble

... +3 on the Dyna Low Rider S.
If my Fat Bob got written of or stolen, I reckon I’d go for a second hand S. Easily a future Dyna classic imo.

Dyna Low S was my favourite Dyna as well, everything the boys are saying is true...but...it ain't no Tourer. Do a 1000km day with a FXDLS and you can't walk, the Tourer shits it in. Bags, screens and highway pegs don't make a tourer, the chassis does. No comparison to a Rushmore for non-freeway touring IMHO.
