First Adventure Bike

    Been looking at buying my first new smaller 'Adventure' bike.
    There's great write ups of the BMW F750GS and F850GS in latest editions of Aust Motorcycle News and Aust Motorcyclist mags - both feature these bikes on the front cover.
    Focused on the F750GS - the price is what grabs me, only $13,590. I realise the usual story of this being the very base model price but the latest comparable Triumph Tiger is about $7,000 more!
    BMW seems to be the king in these type of bikes with namely the GS1200, so probably a safe bet with function & reliability etc.
    Should I also look at KTM? I would be mostly on the tarmac & occasional fire-trail - gravel with creek crossings. Like a lot of us here, grew up on Honda XR's an CR's riding in the bush, I miss this so would like to get back there again occasionally!

    Yeah, it looks the goods alright - but not available until June, need an indication of price.

    $12500US for the standard model.
    Probably just under $18k here.

    Compared to $13,500 on-road for a Honda Africa Twin...

    Cheaper parts by miles, better build quality, miles better performance on-road, more dealers, etc.

    I swear the AT feels like a big MX bike. The GS1200 is a wonderful bike but it's a big lump, it wouldn't see which way an AT went off-road.

    Nutty i think they are more $17-18k plus on roads for a Honda

    I think retail on road is $21,750.
    Then you gotta add panniers etc.

    The BMW F750GS showroom floor price of $13,590 is still looking the best value for money.

    No way. They're down to $14500 sucker price. You'll easily get another &1K off that. '18s need to move.

The base model has no ABS, traction control or cruise control from what I can make out, whereas the BMW base has all this for the lower price. I would obviously consider the Honda models with extras or a 2018 year if the price was right.
    As I said, I grew up on Hondas & always feel like I belong on one - funny how a brand/make can do this.
    Do you know a fair dealer in these Hondas?  - are you over here the eastern states?

    Yep, good mate owns a Honda franchise in Wollongong NSW. I'm in the Shoalhaven.

    I just hope you're pretty tall. I can't anywhere near touch the ground with any of those bikes. Ducks disease.Beats me why someone can't make a bike somewhere near reachable.

    Ha ha might be one for me. I stand 5'6 with very short legs most adventure bikes seat height comes up at least half way up my body I need a step ladder to get on them lol.
