are you using BP98 or caltex 98 , not shell , ?, bike needs a good dyno tune by the sound of it , or cam is to much cranking pressure down low for the comp ratio used, they should be able to pull some timing's out around this rev range if they know what there doing ?

What’s the stage 3 kit? As in what compression, what cams? As mentioned it could be a combination of parts, fuel, timing, weather etc. A good dyno tune (not involving a dealer) will often eliminate detonation and make for a better ride all round

just judging by the rpm range you stated, sounds like rocker arm slop. Always in that 400rpm band.

Ping/detonation is very distinctive noise, get out of it as soon as you hear it. The hot weather doesn't help things either.

If it's a dealer install, the maps they run are full of fuel and pretty conservative on the timing, unless you have upped the comp with a base gasket or something out of the ordinary. Every Screamin Budgy tune i've examined runs the fuel like a flat out garden hose.

Try dropping down a gear and see if it’s goes,
Try upping VE table 3-4 pts in 2000-3000rpm, then adjust timing, your timing should pretty much be linear if plotted on graph

Also you can get crap fuel. I steer clear of small BP’s in country areas. Try to get at freeway outlet.

Hi guys thanks for the reply’s the kit has10.5 pistons and se585cams and a heavy breather and a road rage 2 pipe and yes it only pings when I’m riding like a old woman and when under 110 km in 6 gear yes only bp 98 And yes if I go down a gear pinging goes away maybe I should just ride harder

    Why not Shell's hi-octane offering?

That cam's intake close timing is a bit early for 10.5 compression. It'd need a good tune. Most running 10.5 compression use cams with a later intake closing closer to 45 degrees.

Hi no done about 5000ks on it I think I’m going to get it dynoed at ApL at Windsor  when money allows they want $1000 but people seem to rate them

Jeeze Dan, guess you know pinging can be caused by excessive heat exacerbated by a lean tune which in turn can burn holes in pistons and sieze engines. Fitting that kit without a tune is simple bravery or lunacy. Hopefully 5000k hasn’t already done some damage.  Do it right or don’t do it mate.

I wouldn't let that guy tune my lawnmower, but the fanboys will come flocking. I won't divulge a whole lot, but I'm rebuilding a guys sporty who got the APL "climate control dyno tune" that turned the pistons into molten paperweights.

plugs show lean? timing mark? detonation on plug?
you can add fuel at VE table, check timing table if you can access your tune file

    basic internal combustion engines

Hi pulled plugs nice grey colour motor doesn’t run any hotter than any others does anyone have any recommendations for dyno tunning Sydney preferred central Coast thanks again for everyone’s feedback learning heaps thanks

Plugs may only show general fuel mix. You'd need to sample data all over and know what you're doing to detect and correct fuel mix issues at all rpms and manifold pressures.

Ditto for ignition timing which will be a big consideration for your bike with that cam and compression.

LA Cycles at hoxton Park has a good rep although I haven't used them. I believe they dyno tune

Any Sydney based boys able to assist with a tuner recommendation here....?

Unfortunately, never get to see just how bad peoples “canned” map is vs. dyno tune with so many of the tune files corrupted.
The license system Dynojet PV has introduced also a concern.

    2000-3000rpm
