    Looking at this, it has hd1 serial number,does this year and model come with hd5 , also what would you think is a reasonable price,no registration or roadworthy, cheers j.

    That year did come with a HD1 prefix, changed to HD5 around 2004/5 if I remember right.  That is a tidy bike and should be around 11k in value if it presents well up close.

    hi jungle, that model is virtually a Shovel with an Evo motor, that was about the first year of the Evo. motor rigid mounted to frame & they use the weak  4 speed Cow Pie. this gear box not that strong. ok if you are just going to ride once in a while & you don't like riding hard.

    I bloody LOVE it.

    I have an 86 Evo and its 80% compatible with Shovel parts.  This is the same except for the Shovel tranny and a belt drive final!  Awesome stuff

    Correct for now but not back then when this bike was made. I had a 94 FLSTN and a 98 FLHT both Aussie delivered both with a 1HD. Changed some time in the early 2000's to the 1HD & 5HD prefix's indicating US or OS delivery

    you sure ?
    1981- Present:
    From 1981 to present the VIN has been a 17 digit code located on the frame and abbreviated on the engine. In this VIN the first 3 digits are the world manufacturer ID (see list below), the fourth digit is the weight class (see weight class list below). The next two letters are the model designation (see list below), the sixth digit was the engine type (see list below), the seventh digit was the introduction period (see list below), The eighth digit was the VIN check digit which could be 0-9 or X, the next letter was the model year (see list below), the letter after that was the assembly plant (see list below) and the last 6 numbers were the production numbers. If you are looking for information on a specific VIN number on a bike produced after 1981 you can look it up on Harley-Davidson's official VIN search at this link: https://serviceinfo.harley-davidson.com/sip/vehicle/lookup?vin=
    Example:
    World Mfg. Class Model Engine Intro Check Year Plant Production Number
    1HD 1 AA K 1 9 B Y 158126
    World Manufacturer ID:
    1HD = Manufactured for sale within the United States
    5HD = Manufactured for sale outside of the United States
    932 = Manufactured in and for sale only in Brazil
    MEG = Manufactured in and for sale only in India
    Weight Class:
    1 = Heavyweight (= 901 cc)
    4 = Lightweight (= 900 cc)
    8 = Sidecar

    This is correct.  I have had shovels and evo's, all aussie delivered and all 1HD. It changed to 5HD with the Twinkies.

    I'm thinking this bike was advertised as a Super Glide, I actually had a look at it when it (maybe it still is ) was at Pitmans,
    I hope to get hold of an evo 4 speed one day, they were a one year only, I like em original, this one is too far from original for me, looks like it's got a wide glide front end, dodgy looking headlight, that tank paint scheme doesn't look right, and the speedo set up is incorrect, should have a speedo tach set up, then there's the seat, pipes, carb and aircleaner, the Super Glide didn't have forward controls, and the list goes on and on, but if none of this bothers you, then because its an evo 4 speed it's still gotta be worth around $12k,

    Heya Benno, that's a Lockhardt Oil Cooler and you will find them on Ebay from time to time.  You can also give Rusty at Rusty's Customs at Cleveland a call and see if he has 1 or 15 lying around.

    Beno, that oil cooler like has been posted is a Lockhart . they came stock on shovel lowrider but not on super glide . my oil used to be too cool on my shovel ( shovel had a larger oil tank . I finished up removing it. but up N T and the real hot states would be ok.
    also the shovel frame came stock with a bracket that had a hole in it, was up top made to mount that oil cooler.

    So I would say $10k - $15k for the old Superglide (I would pay $12k for it as they are a classic)

    Never needed an oil cooler on my 86 Evo and that's running it with a turbo in 40degree+ days.
