Very true, when i rode a bike in USA without a helmet i could not take my eyes off the mirror expecting to see a copper with blood on his mind ready to arrest me for some terrible crime. It never happened but i felt really uneasy just like big brother in Australia was tut tutting my behaviour. LOL

Hahahaha. You got me curious now. I just did a little googling and you’re right. They DO look much more rag tag. But they still seem to have a few $$$ to put into their bikes :-)

A good book with lot of pic's of bikers in the USA back in those day's. is "Halfway to Berdoo " it's about Mother Ruthe. look it up but no one had helmets riding a Harley or Brit bike in 70's here in Australia & in late 70's early 80's if you had an open face helmet and road a Harley they laughed at you.

I was never an HA but back in the sixties (Yeah, I'm an old bastard) we rode our Brit bikes with no helmets in Oz. Didn't have to use them so didn't own one. I had plenty of hair to cover the bonce in those days though. I rode a G12 Matchless and loved it!

Well as a patched member from the 70s the doco looked much as I remembered, didn’t watch the whole thing and yeah, maybe I should but visually that’s how it was, pimples and all. Most of us were probably 19 or so. Only two of us had a Harley and yeah, the other guys took the piss. Mostly Bonnies, XS1/2’s, Commandos, the odd BSA, Enfield, Triumph triples, Hurricanes, even the odd Titan plus plenty of those horrid howling 750/4s.
Yeah, we rode everywhere, weather was never a consideration but on larger organised runs we did have a Ute/trailer to transport the booze. Most of us slept where we fell by the fire, helmet for a pillow, sunnies on so we weren’t woken at sunrise, or in case some staggering sod pissed on you overnight, great time but my ole liver ain’t up to it nowadays.

Look up Bill Ray Hells angels on google, he was  time life photographer who spent a bunch of time documenting the HA in the mid 60s, amazing set of photos.

I had the honour of meeting Dougie poo (guy on left) and Buzzard (bloke with big iron cross) and being commissioned by the family to produce an art piece a couple of years back, interesting guys with story after story, they really don't make guys like this any more.
