Trouble?

    Went for a ride a week ago  on my 2018 streetglide 107 stage 1 and arriving home noticed oil from air cleaner down  side of bike.
    Check oil level, overfull( from dealer 1st serv) easy fix i thought, took out 500ml all good.
    Went to Bendigo yesterday, same again, wiped bike down at Bendigo and returned home, 300ks plus trip. On getting home bike went into heat mode,1cyl etc as soon as i stopped,(no street riding here) Oil level 3 - 4 mm below full hatch mark on dip stick hot. Oil blown back on pannier front, side, flicking up on seat, rear guard etc.Only 27 - 28 c temp day?
    Thoughts?

    Sumping maybe.
    oil out of the aircleaner indicates problems in the PCV drainage system or very full rocker boxs.
    No doubt others will chime.
    Still under warrantee?
    Have a look at the brand new CVO and unhappy thread as similar issue with oil level and heat mode.

    Moik, the M8's seem pretty sensitive to oil level, try adjusting it to half way up the dash's went hot and see how it goes.
    My understanding of the EITMS mode is that it's only for rider comfort anyway mate and it does come on pretty easy on the M8's - I turned mine off, which is easy to do, when idling, switch the boombox to info showing air temp etc and confirm it's enabled and active, and then roll the throttle forward for a couple of seconds to disable it. Switch it back whenever you like.
    Theres a few posts in the US HDForums discussing this topic, also depending on which a/c you had fitted as part of stage 1, you may be able to get longer breather tubes (redesigned from original) which help somewhat.
    Failing all that, go and see your dealer mate.

    After talking to dealer extended the breather hoses 20mm with barbed vacuum joiners. Ridden 400ks since and seems all good.Not sure about plastic in air cleaner though, maybe Harley will bring out upgraded hoses?

    My 2012 street glide 103 bought new has had the same problem from week one. External venting has cured it

    Dealer rang on Friday and said parts for clutch recall were in, and we should make a time to fit, after this discussion I mentioned how the extensions in the air cleaner had worked well stopping the oil spewing down the side of the bike. He thanked me for reminding him of this and would order a new oil pump to fit while they had the bike. He also said good idea to put  a cam in at this time, $800-$900 . What do you guys think of that?

    Hey Moik, good news on extending the breather tubes mate. Why is your dealer fitting a new oil pump, did you ask for this? Will they also fit the new design cam plate with seal at the same time?
    If you were thinking of a cam upgrade, it makes sense to do it then - but what does the $800-$900 cover - camshaft, bearing, lifters etc?

    Gidday doc, Dealer come up with this oil pump with no prompting, just matter of fact. Not sure on cam price but wouldnt think a lot extra labour to be involved. If cam only seems a little pricey to me? Will ring and check. Cheers.

    Sorry for late update, took bike to dealer last weekend  for clutch recall and oil pump replacement. New pump seals cam chest from crankcase i was told to stop sumping? Rang today to see if right to pick up tomorrow but now the cylinders need replacing as very glazed(worst they have seen) Glazing of the bores? I hope i can view the old cylinders,and it hasn't had a nip up, seemed to be running ok . 5,400ks love the bike but pretty depressing. Cheers.

    Sounds like this bike's been sumping from new, the oil has been refilled at service to the dipstick mark but there might've been 400-600ml in the crankcases. 
    Every M8 I oil change gets the CAS and the crankcase bung removed and the sumping quantity checked. 
    Moiks' issue will continue for as long as the MoCo ignore monitoring of each bikes' sumping volume. You can't find something you're not looking for...

    i'm trying to gather in my head,how after removing only the primary cover and timing cover,the dealer can assess your "glazed" bores [ with out using a bore scope/camera ] ?

    My thoughts exactly Bruce, why or how come they go to this length to check this out? Maybe this is a positive on the dealers behalf? did send them a video of oil down side of bike and i think that this may of convinced them of the severity of the problem. Cheers.

    have you seen the bike and are the heads removed ? have you seen the bores your self ? if the oil " leak " was from a breather/air cleaner and appeared a large oil loss, that might have given the dealer the impression of excess blowby and their decision of glazed bore as the cause [ or failed rings ]

    Ok guys, got bike back a couple of weeks ago and ridden 4-5ooks and all seems good. Went up strathbogies on weekend and gave a good work out, come home and no oil seepage any ware. I didnt get to see cyls but dealer dropped bike off at home (2 hrs away) and i think thats great service. Its easy to get negative , stuff happens but i think the dealer here is doing a good job in remedying HD's fault and looking after me. Still love this bike, cheers.
