Melanoma - Bikes and the Sun

    Hello everyone,
Please no replies to this. It's a cautionary tale.

I have been riding bikes for almost 40 years. My biggest gripe was having to wear a helmet. Look, I know but my Father never wore one and I didn't want to or at least I wanted the choice.
In the early days if I was travelling in the country or at night I wouldn't wear a helmet.
When I did wear one it was the one that sat on the top of yer head with no face, neck or even in a crash, head protection.

Anyhoo I've had the average amount of crashes for riding for 40 years and 10 times the near misses.
And you all know what's coming......keep up Barry (a mate of mine).
I never thought about all that sun hitting my face.
Oh yeah I would wear full Mars leathers on the Buell, the GPZ 1100 FI, after all it was the fastest bike on the planet at the time, you would be mad not to.
And so on with bike after bike.

Today I have been given the news that my right ear where it joins my face, you know where ya grow ya sideburns must be largely removed along with much of my right cheek just below my right eye.

I'm still deciding what to do as it's a very personal choice.

    Just another motorcycle precautionary tale.

    Cheers all

    Liam
