  Sounds like it should be ok in theory.
  You will be limited by the vci.
  Would certainly be useful for tuning idle and higher kPa at low RPM

  Its currently in a box in my desk.

  Very likely to stay there until tuning time comes. Even comes with widebands.

  Now I need a friggin' external CD drive just to operate the PV. 

  What a joke, it's old technology that requires a computer with a CD drive. 

  Even HD managed to allow downloads.

  I've tried it with the cable, tethered to the bike lift.

  Used to look at idle VEs and Timing as well as other parameters.

  Reckon it's doable on the run.

  Keeping your eyes on the road....well, that's up to you and your straight roads.

  
  

  Now, if you had an XB Buell, you could have it bluetoothed to a phone on your bars and run live data on ECDdroid.

  For free!

  BUT, the ole paintshaker plays havoc with the phone at idle ;-)

  Hilly, call you "handy Hilly" . 

  That is a great concept, and like a good idea for a play to keep busy, and interested.

  They drill holes or bulletsholes, now you Queenslander's". But it looks like you got a handle on it?

  Where you mounting ya target, bars, more rubber comes to mind help insulating.

  I may be missing something,I just used my dealer PV to tune a guys trike. It worked out pretty well, I mounted the PV on the bars and rode about hitting cells with carefree abandon. Came back to the shop and applied the learning etc. I did not have to plug into a CD drive???

  To install the PV software....

  it is on a CD, which requires loading into a computer.

  Though, it does appear it can be downloaded direct.

   The PO perhaps was not aware....I was advised I'd need a CD drive.

  I can see now, from the instructions the software can be loaded directly from the internet.

  The dealer PV works the same, just has licensing and came with an AT kit. One just downloads the software from PV site and you are all go. I am mortal as well mate. Hilly, the PV and SEPST auto/smart tune do background changes you may be unaware of to protect the engine whilst using the AT features. This is why , while auto tuning is much better than no tuning, there is still room for gains afterwards.
