Hi, just got the old shovelhead home and find a new oil leak , thinking that I just have to replace o ring behind the rocker plug but no ,the dammed thread has stripped and can't even get the plug out.
So now I have to take the cover off and tap and helicoil or timesert ,my question is will this affect the valve clearances when I reassemble and will I need to replace the gasket .
Also what is the thread size ?
or does anybody possibility have a good front rocker box that they would be willing to part with.
    Tia

Hi Tussuck , I have found that it is  most likely 1/2" ×20 , I think my best bet is going to be a good second hand one, or new .depends upon the cost effectiveness.

a 5/8" x 18 then I have a TimeSert that will fit.  Although there may not be enough metal in the cover.

Appoligies to anyone who has viewed this thread, 9or posted to it.
I am a dumb ass newbie to harley motor's. I started to remove the offending part with a homemade tool , success,  I found out how these things go together.
Anyway spoke to my mechanic and we concluded that the increased oil flow after his repairs to the oil lines resulted in higher pressure to the seals that hadn't been a problem.
Still the top has to come off . Rocker plug over tightened in the rocker shaft by another dumb ass
    Thanks to all.
