Damn he was a legend.  I was at a DLRA meeting in Melbourne and not knowing anyone there started to chat to the chap sitting next to me.  He was interested in my bikes turbo setup and asked some very good questions - I'm thinking this guy knows his stuff!  Turns out it was John himself.

A very modest bloke and a pleasure to talk with!

My Friend used to talk on phone a lot with John, & When John & wife up his way they stayed with him. so as I was alway's interested & I alway's thought, not many people in this world that would or could put in the effort on motor's & bikes that John did. I heard people say " that sportster illegal for the class". and make wild claims about what it runs in its design. but most of the claims of the design, came from other jobs John had done for customers.
I been lucky enough to see first hand some of his work. like some of the factory panhead head's he turned into performance heads & my friend has a Panhead performance manifold John made a casting and a limited run of, who know's how long back & not many people would even know about. As my friend a loyal Pan Man a few years back John gave him one of these Panhead manifolds. It bolts up to stock Panheads, looks like it will flow better than the stock T manifold.
Another thing is John set up his Sporty's motor to fire in reverse, so motor spins back the front to normal ( not that hard to do), but if you try it on your bike, the bike will try to go backwards. I know the reason but another story.
Also I got to look at new one off head castings John made about almost twenty years back for a really big inch Nitro Top Bike motor, it had stainless steel chamber , that is cast into cast alloy. I've seen plenty of stainless steel chambers that bolt into cast alloy but this is the only cast in one I have ever seen. and not many people would have the know how to do that!!
I could go on but no point.
