Any reason why you got them from Italy? There's companies here in Melbourne that could make them with a shorter clamping area instead of cutting and welding them up.

Jeeze mate be carefull with the welds.
I know welding’s come a long way, but I lost a mate in the 70’s from those old Z welded bars letting go at speed.
Guess these days you’ll sleeve em so there’s no internal dags rubbing on the wiring.

I went local and spent 4-6 months being messed around (the chap was nice but it was not a priority for him and I will not bag him as I think they are actually a good shop), so by shear luck I found the raw bars on an Italian site and ordered them.
For the welding I will be taking them to a certified TIG master welder as even though I could do them easy enough I do not have the experiance that a pro can bring to the table.  I was thinking of putting in a solid rod piece extending an inch either side of the weld to provide extra strength as the cable exits will be down through the risers which will also be welded onto the bars. (I have yet to figure out the bolting methoud yet)

The other set of bars will be just a 100% swap out for the current bars.  And then painted along the lines of someone being on LSD and Speed at the same time ie bright rainbow/hippie colors

Hi Krash, yeah one piece and Tussuck reckons he’s gonna remove a few inches from the lower cross section so I figure cut and weld.

One piece units (I will only be cutting one set)
The cut up pair will have welded risers and the untouched pair are a direct replacement fit for my current stock Sporty bars (have ordered a cable extension kit).  I plan to just bolt them on and see if l like the height and feel and if that works then I will work on the second set to cut up and run all cables internally.
Mandrell bent bloody solid 1" OD with 2.5mm wall thickness (1/10")
Looks to be seamless steel as well...heavy buggers
    Comes with Dimples

Thank's Ratbob, I missed that, tussuck good your getting a pro & flame welded ( more flexible ) the hard part will be getting risers in the perfect angle so that you feel 100% comfortable when riding. because if the job is done and don't feel like 100% right after your riding. you will have to do it all over.

Guy in Sydney made the bars on this out of Stainless, made to fit to the old style Harley risers, or even Dog Bones off a Harley Springer. but no idea how long the wait was.

I've always been told solid bar is not the way to go for slugs. Should use a piece of hollow bar the same or similar wall thickness that fits neat inside the ID of your bars and make it as long as you can with plug welds either side.
I had almost identical bars on my sporty and the only issue I ever had was that without the knurling on the clamping section the bars always moved, no matter how tight I had the risers done up. Obviously this won't be an problem once you put on the narrowed welded bars.

Yes, I was going to ask that the welder purged the pipe and then TIG'd as opposed to MIG'd (MIG is more brittle than TIG, although either way I'll be sanding and blending it flat anyway)

Good suggestion on the tube insert vs. solid stock - I was wondering about the inherent strengths given that tube is stronger than rod.
