Bike now gone

A couple of weeks ago I was out on a ride with a couple of mates and had a pretty bad accident. The bike has now been written off, I did $28k of damage to it. I came out of it pretty good considering, lots of skin off (healing well now) and 5 broken ribs. First time I've broken ribs and man they ain't any fun at all.
At the moment I've decided not to replace her due mostly to financial issues. I will however buy a cheaper bike (most likely a mid size Adventure bike) until I get on top of things again.
I am not sure what actually happened, we were ridind on a country road that I've been on many times. Rich was out front, he too knows the road well. I was in the middle and Mick was behind, he hadn't been on the road before so I was hanging back with him. We just came around a corner where there was a side road and I was just going over a crest. As Mick hadn't been on the road before I was looking in the mirror to make sure he was still behind me. Next thing I was sliding and tumbling down the road with the bike doing the same thing in front of me. I  really dont know if I  hit a patch of gravel or possibly even a snake or lizard. Ive been riding for ver 40 years and this is the worst crash I've ever had.  Just goes to show that no matter how long you have been riding for or how well you know a road accidents can and do still happen.

Yeah mate definitely could've been a lot worse for me. I reckon the engine bars are what saved me from a lot more damage.
I hope you heal well mate and I definitely know what you're feeling with the ribs.

Yep happens in a flash! Good to hear for the most part you were lucky to walk/limp away as 400kg sliding thru the gravel could have been more serious. Was the bike insured?

Yeah thanks fella's, I will get another Harley later, it's hard to not own one once you have. My bike was insured ith QBE and I'll post up once I've spoken to them. The assessor has written it off though. They have already approved my riding gear so I'm not expecting any dramas, fingwrs crossed.

    Bugga.
Thanks Steve for posting. As mentioned the main thing is your mostly ok. The rib thing sucks.
I do ribs often, just don"t laugh , cry, or hiccup.Rode with a kidney belt around ribs. Very interested to see insurance treatment, as they can be really cool, or bad badgers.
Got for sale,  really cool Yamaha Belgardia, 1996, Ohlins, and brembo brakes, both don"t work, and , and it"s akickstart, and it"s a one of hand painted, by Moron. What more would you like.collector adventurer. lol.Hope ya didn't laugh. Get well man.

    good that you're ok.
insurance will sort you out i'm sure.
i've finally joined the club after 38 years of riding on the black stuff.
riding to work in the morning.... dark, fckwits everywhere.
car pulls from the left hand lane into the right hand lane, but we were already braking.
the car in front locked up, i grabbed more front brake....front locked and through me down, ended under the car in front.
both knees damaged, 4 months off work.
currently back at work 5 hours a day ATM.
BUT, i'm one of the lucky ones, still riding.

Nice bike Lofty but about $10k more than I want to sell. Im thinking about either a Triumph Tiger 800 XCx or a BMW F 800 GS.

Yeah mate just want to try something different for a while. Certainly happy to catch up for a ride once I'm capable again.
