Slim S upgrades

Earlier this year i purchased this bike from local HH dealer at a fairly reasonable price for what i think has been done to the bike. It had a stage 3 SE kit put in from new by HH which was covered by new bike warranty. I extended the warranty for another 3 years just as a peace of mind thing.

Photo taken on the day of pickup.
It had everything i wanted and the missus was happy cause she now had a back rest. The only thing that was concerning me and that was the faded heat shields on the V and H big radius pipes. Searched the web for new shields but had no luck.

Few months down track I have managed to do a few bits and pieces here and there to get it looking the way i want it to be.
    New add ons include
    - Diamond black brake pedal and shifter peg
    - Mustang widetripper solo and passenger seat
    - Arlen Ness big sucker air cleaner
    - Khrome Werks 3"HP slip on mufflers

Pretty happy with the way its turned out so far with still a few more upgrades to happen down the track.
I went with the Khrome Werks mufflers due to the oem mufflers looking identical and the oem heat shields fitting properly. I also used the original screaming eagle header pipes with matched up perfectly to the mufflers. Sound wise its not as loud and doesn't have that bark that the big rads have but you can still here me coming up the street. Took it for a spin after i fitted the mufflers and a there is that minor decal pop when backing off but thats due to be fixed in the next week or so when it goes in for a tweak on the dyno to fix air fuel ratios etc.

Thanks Hilly yes I am a bit biased towards this bike as well , there just a good looking bike overall, easy to ride. I've had mids , forwards and now boards and I do say I prefer the boards. You get that feel of being stable while riding even though they have scraped the bitumen a few times I just like them.

So after riding around for a bit with the slip on mufflers I sort of missed the look of the big radius pipes and decided to strip back the affected areas of the V and H pipes with some sanding, beer and more sanding and more beer. I bought some Dupli colour High heat ceramic spay paint from super cheap which is basically car header paint heat tested to 2000 degrees F, 3 coats later it came up pretty good. The instructions say to heat in a conventional oven until temp reaches 200c but the missus didn't like that idea plus they wouldn't fit any way. So a bit more research and I was able to bake them using the heat of the bike The process was idle for 10 mins cool for 10 mins  then ride for 30 mins then cool for 30 mins total cost was about $50 for the paint and a bottle of wax and grease cleaner plus a few hours and a 6 pack while rubbing them back. So far so good but time will tell.

Nice bike. Styling very similar to my Fatboy S. I would have gone the Slim S but having had 20 years of spoked wheels they're a bastard to keep clean so I went with the Fatty's solid wheels.
That air cleaner looks nice. I like the black filter, I thought they were all a purple colour due to the spray oil. Where can I get one in Australia? That would be my next upgrade.

Hey ToeCutter yeah the spokes can be a bit tricky keeping clean but there are that many products on the market today making it easy to keep them clean most are spray on and hose off. The black filter came with the full Arlen Ness heavy breather kit I am sure you can find one on the evil bay some where, The filter itself is full water resistant no rain sock required. The whole kit itself by memory was about $350 ish from Easy R one of the forum sponsors and about half the cost of a Screaming eagle setup

Thanks for the tip Iron. Ordered from EasyR the day after your post. Got the new filter within a few days and installed it over the weekend. Easy install - looks sweet. Excuse the tank mess from recent rain - it got a wash afterwards.

At great risk to my bank account - tell me about the stage 3 upgrade if you don't mind. Worth it? What difference have you noticed?
I've ridden mates 103s and can really tell the different with the 110 on the S. Given the S is already stage 1, I'm wondering about the next stages. Was about to pull the trigger on stage 4 but bike already pulls well in the 80km/hr to 110km/hr roll on so I wonder if I'm just chasing dyno numbers.  I do love more grunt though...

The filter looks great mate, I think its the sort of filter setup that would suit any black bike and easy to install yourself.

As far as the stage 3 kit goes I bought the bike with it already installed the previous owner had it installed from brand new so I cant really compare before and after.
The kit installed is basically a Hi comp kit with 10:5:1 forged pistons, pushrods etc etc and it has the SE 259 performance cam kit in it as well. The torque is mid range which is really good as the power is there when required also good for when the pillion passenger is on the back. There is no lag or waiting for the power to come on its pretty noticeable. Compared to my street bob 103 I had previously this thing is more get up and go. The street bob only had a 103 stage 1 and the figures on that where 80hp and 91 torque. I haven't had this one on the dyno yet to see what it can actually do but the book specs say roughly 108hp and 112 torque but hopefully will get it down to the shop soon to see what it actually does. I think the big radius pipes I have will probably kill a few horsies.

    nice looking ride's!
Just thought I would mention, when you look inside a stock 110 the piston does not come up in the bore high enough, to get full use of the chamber. so they don't get a clean burn. but they still make good Torque!
I saw one that had bottom of barrels decked, so barrels go down a bit more and piston's come up higher, think it had 40thou swish ( piston's came up 40 thou from top of the bore ) with a valve job and using the stock cam's & after a custom tune on a Dyno ( takes all day to custom map ) the bike had a really strong torque curve & broad, almost like a diesel!!
    difference in feel was huge.
