    Hi guys,

    Thanks very much!

No offense, but if you're really concerned about the legalities of all your mods,  just get a copy of the Australian Design Rules and read it thoroughly.
As for my experiences, mine are 2" over. Would anyone ever notice? Nope.

It also depends which State you’re in and I don’t mean mentally:)
Qld seems to allow greater trail. In Vic you see plenty of bikes with no front guards etc so you need the ADR and traffic acts that apply.

Handles better and looks better. That length came stock on other models though.

Yeah, I think springers are 2” under and a Fatbob is 2” less than a Wideglide and then there’s the rake issue which lowers the WG and Breakout, I’ve seen a few Breakouts with WG tubes and reckon the 2” lifts em nicely, couldn’t hurt handling.

Yeah, Breakouts need all the help they can get with handling & ground clearance. Using WG forks seems to be the 'fix' for ground clearance.
Mr J, I don't think cops really know - obviously as long as it doesn't look too radical.

You need to reference the ADR.  I do not recall seeing anything about length or rake/trail, HOWEVER the moment you modify the frame (ie the neck area) of exceed the 550mm rule then I suspect your open to being pinged.  Eventually I'm going to a Girder front end one day so have researched it a little bit.

Yeah I struggled to find anything about the length too. Anyway thanks for the info. Cheers.

Yeah the rake and fork length are not part of the rules, they’re controlled by the 550 rule, that’s why you see some chop companies extending the neck of the frame so it looks like you have longer forks but within the 550 rule. Butt ugly I reckon.

Yeah.. my question was pretty much found with 550 rule..
Do you have a photo of the mentioned bike? Wld be interested to see what that looks like.

I think its the imported American Legend or some sort of piece of crap that tries and fails to emulate a 'chopper'.

Oddly enough an aftermarket frame is sometimes the better way fwd so long as it comes with the Certs - although it will still need an Engineers certificate.  If your not worried then you can chop your frame and extend if needed, but make sure you do the rake/trail maths first.

Sorry don’t have a photo (not tech savvy) but look in Bikesales, there’s one bike under the make of Chopper, yellow and black, the forks ain’t long but they’ve pushed out the frame neck to compensate. Me no like but it’s likely to be within the 550 rule.

My mate just stretched his Honda shadow chopper.  Bought a set of trees and forks from the USA whee the trees are offset and the centreline of the neck altered as part of the kit.  Bolt on bolt off he said.

Some tree's that have the rake in them, can affect handling, I've ridden old chopper panheads with raked frame & long front end, had to fight it at low speed, it also goose knecked over bumps, but surprising at the right speed.
