    Hi guys, quick question.

Am looking at a buying a 2006 Ultra Classic Electra Glide tomorrow. One owner, 44000 odd k's. Owner is now 75, bike now too much for him. It is an import from the US. Says he has all the paperwork for servicing etc, so I'll check to see if the cam chain tensioner ahs been replaced.

Anything else in particular I should look for?

    Cheers. :)

There is a truck load of things to check for, servicing, accident damage, as its a USA import why are you saying its a KLM reading not miles. Does it have a log book to prove the mileage is correct. Now if its a $1000 bike none of the above is relevant but if its a significant amount do your homework and the maths.

Jeez, What sort of coin Jo? It’s the pre 09 frame which is a bit of a negative. How far into the 44000kms did he import it, everything prior to that’s a bit of an unknown. I personally don’t like it from the info given, but again, how much? You previously indicated a budget of around 15k if not mistaken? I feel like you could do way better than an ‘06 ultra for the coin.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm definitely wary. :) I guess I'll find out most things raised above tomorrow, when I meet the guy and look over the bike.

I do know that he had the bike imported new from the US in '06. I don't know why, I'll ask him that tomorrow. So all mileage has been done here in Oz. He also says he has all service receipts for me to look at, and that's a first after 9 weeks at looking at various bikes to date. Every other bike I've looked at has been lacking in that.

    Price is a negotiable $12,500.

had a laugh , my pre 09 shovelled I bought new, had 1 million k's up when I sold it and m8 who bought it still riding long distance been around tassie up Queensland to name a few since he bought it 40 year old Harley. now you blokes think they should be kept in  storage then thrown out when use by date expires. also on US import miles, doubt can get miles to come up when posting an add, like all Aussie cars & bikes older than 1974 had miles , but check out add's for them all in km.
Jo if motor bog stock & regular service documented & all checks out should be good hope you get a test ride too.
    good luck.

Thanks Krash. Just about to head off to check it out. It's a couple of hours away, so will be a nice ride there and back - if nothing else. :)

You can also do a REVS check Jo costs 25 bucks, will list if it is under finance or on the right off register.
    Good luck.

Back from checking out the FLHTCUI. Very impressive.

Owner is a 75 y/o. He bought the bike new from Fraser's at Wollongong, and had them do all services. He had all service receipts, along with manuals and original purchase papers. Bike is in very good shape, only blemish some pitting on front forks (easy to fix).

Got to take it for a ride, really enjoyable. Once moving didn't notice the size or weight at all. However at slow speeds I was almost caught out. The front end is surprisingly heavy, with the bike falling into corners. Made slow speed corners and round-a-bouts very tricky. Took a while to get the hang of it, well somewhat anyway.

Made an offer. Now waiting for him to come back to me. In the meantime I've got a 2006 Street Glide and a 2008 Heritage Softail Classic to test ride. Should make a nice comparison to the Ultra.

Nice! Jo a sreeet Glide is the answer here. They offer the same bike as the Ultra minus the top box and that's an easy fix with a rack and gear sack. Less weight up high as well.
