I have had the battery issue too (Slim S 117), and have been told to get a tender. Battery usually goes 2 weeks, but as it gets down yea it won't last a day.

You'll need to either get a bigger battery or do the tender - if you don't you damage your ring gears.

Its a fault and Harley Davidson should fix the problem so it doesn't need a tender. If this was normal all new bikes would come with tenders and the manual would state "put bike on battery tender every night" and of course no one would buy one.....

    There's always............gasp!!!! Indian

I don’t want to have to plug it in every night..... I’ll trade or sell it before that. Fuck this :o(
I saw a 2006 screaming eagle Vrod for sale, I still think it’s  one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made. Might swap the FB for it, all though my bike is probably worth next to nothing now, it is 4 months old......

Spoke to a Harley mechanic today about this post. He did say that they've had to replace some batteries of late on newish bikes. Perhaps a bad batch? If you could find an auto electrician, they might be able to disconnect battery and check what current draw there is at off condition? Or do it yourself (perhaps google) with a multimeter.  I appreciate your support for the brand. Don't give up..

And the irony about this is that a battery going flat has never effected my bike , its everything else that has shit its self!!!LOL

Just spoke to the dealer, they said it’s a “transport mode” issue. When a bike is put in transport mode the battery will start to drain until it’s dead. So recharged the battery and don’t put it in transport mode. I really have absolutely no faith in this solution........... . . . .  .  .  .   .   .

I have a Tender and use it if not riding bike for a few weeks, I was told back in 09 that the Alarm system does drain the battery over time.  But a battery in good condition, Should be ok to sit for 3 months, and still start

I got my brand new streetbob home and went to go for a squirt a week after getting it home... dead flat battery. It’s weird I’ve fully charged it once and it’s been fine since...

My 2012 Sportster killed it’s battery
My 2014 Sportster killed it’s battery
My 2016 Dyna killed it’s battery

(Then I stopped buying new bikes).

But, all of them were ridden daily, weekendly, all of them would go flat.

For what it’s worth both of my KTMs did the same.

"Transport Mode".    Never heard of it.   I just had a look in my owners manual and found it.   Why the hell would anyone go to that effort.   If you were having the bike shipped somewhere maybe,   but for normal use and daily riding there's no need.   Sounds like a BS response to me.   Why the hell are dealers making things so hard.   There is obviously an issue with the bike and/or the battery.   Look after the customer,   they've spent 32 grand,   fix it.

Just replaced battery in my Streetbob, was original 2008 battery. Would only go flat if I didn't start it for a few weeks. When it got to going flat over 1 week (While working) I replaced it. Gave the old battery to mate who is using it in on old Kwaka & it starts every time as doesn't draw so much with 4 pots, not 2 big muthas. did get a tender for new battery, set it up but not using yet. Think your problem will get sorted even though it is pissing you off. The dealers don't want it coming back under warranty, cost them workshop hours, so they will keep trying.

    very frustrating!
    hope they sort this out.
I've never had battery problems using the Genuine HD AGM type battery they last me 7 years ( but on carb Harleys )
If I had a late EFI Big Twin I would use a battery tender, as they have a lot of work to do, and they are huge motors ( 110 cubic inch up )
the V Rod is a small motor so not as hard on battery, but I have saw more V Rod motors apart!! they are much more work to rebuild when they do go!!
    I would sort this out.

I have only basically commuted on it since I bought it.... but that shouldn’t worry it. My 2014 Street bob and 2012 Vrod didn’t need battery tenders and they had the same alarm system. I guess I could sell it and buy another used Vrod they’re bullet proof, and great bikes, why HD dropped them after so much R&D went into the Vrod I don’t know. There’s the new FXDR but same faulty runing gear and just not worth 35 grand in any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe a dodgy relay (Do they still use relays? I'm from the distant past.), allowing something to draw current from the battery while parked up. Had a similar problem with a Triumph years ago. Killed it before I fixed it though. Next Trump had no issues at all.

Your bike probably has under and overcharging alerts built in (my '12 Widey does), so it'll be charging OK if you haven't seen a warning come up.

Keep all your records of conversations/dealings with the dealer. Australia does have good lemon laws now, so consumer affairs may be your next stop if the dealers is being unhelpful. Have you tried going to HD Australia?

Do you park it on concrete ? Harley dealer told me not to park it on concrete apparently it drains it more LOL HAHAHA!
Just check it yourself, or buy a new battery non Harley one, I did and haven’t had my battery drain since

My bike (Ridden daily) was dead flat one morning. It ended up being moisture in the data port plug.

Well since it was in the workshop a month ago its still starting fine but the last two times its taken a good 6 weeks for the problem to arise again. Its really wet here in Brisneyland just now so the bike might sit for a couple days. We'll see how the battery handles that. If it does it again I might have to go to HD Australia, I guess that's the next stage?

I reckon it's just the alarm system... It's power hungry. Either ride your bike more often (not just start it)or completely disconnect the battery until you're gonna ride it. Mine drains in 2 weeks of left connected or if I disconnect the battery lasts easily over a month or 2.
Can't compare it to the other bikes I've owned as they all didn't have an alarm system hence they lasted months in storage.

Never had a drama utilising trickle power, except very obvious issue. Regulator or such. Not that dear, for piece of charge.
