Hey guys,
Probably a very simple question, what makes factory mirrors left and right? Is it the fastening mechanism only? I can see from pics online that one sided factory mirror looks like it has a longer threaded end than the other side??....my bike didn't come with factory mirrors so I cant use my bike as reference. Plus on the HD website, mirrors can be bought has a set or as a 'left mirror' or 'right mirror' on their own ??
I have those little short rectangle mirrors which are flipped under bar, and looking to swap back to the factory style mirrors, still flipped so I'm unsure of what effect flipping left and right factory mirrors under bar has on how they ay fasten? Clearance should be ok as my steering stops have been altered to stop the existing mirrors hitting the tank...
And would Breakout mirrors fit sportster? (only asking as I see a lot of breakout mirror sets for sale on gumtree etc)
Thanks guys.
Chris
Thanks guys, I wasn't sure if the left and right were anything to do with how they fastened to the hand controls or not and may pose a problem if flipped (left mirror flipped to right control, right mirror flipped to left control)....ie thread length of fastener/nut or such.
:)
BBYHD, the sporty mirrors are the same mount on both sides. Only difference as pointed out by others is the bend in the mounting stalk. You can swap the stock mirrors from side to side when you flip them under the bars. Only issue is the writing is then upside down. So many people flipped the mirrors on their early Irons that Harley came out with them flipped on the 48 a year or so later! If you want to run stock style mirrors under the bars, just get a set of 48 mirrors as then the writing on them will be the right way up. If upside down writing does not bother you, any set of an Iron, Custom, 72, or Superlow will work. Cheers, TC
Important to get the writing the right way up
