    Hi all,
After some advice please.. I need to replace a damaged front end on a 2004 FXST.. triple clamps and forks are damaged.. i also think previous owner had put incorrect forks on it, as they seem longer than standard. (Bike wants to fall to either side more than usual due to longer forks i think)
Hoping some similar year model other harleys may be able to swap entire front end over if steering head bearing sizes are compatible.. i've checked a couple of online bearing websites that do this sort of comparison (steering head bearing sizes etc), but they don't compare Harley models..
Ideally i'd like to put a wider front tyre on also.
Not wanting to buy an after market kit or anything... hoping to source parts second hand and build..

    cheers

They all have the same steering tube and are interchangeable. Differences are fork tube diameter and width of triple trees. I.e 39mm narrow glide vs 41mm mid glide etc

    Thanks mate.

When you say all.. does that include say all the dyna based ones also? And do i need to stay within my shape years? e.g. i think my model range is 1999-2005?

And would any particular HD model provide more stability and the wider front tyre if i was to fit their triples and forks / guard wheel? e.g. a fatboy front end appears to have shorter fork tubes, and a wider wheel / tyre?

    cheers

I would go with 49mm FatBob front end, black trees and lowers and dual disc brakes

I think from memory the FatBob was first offered in 2008 so anytime from then on. The FatBob has the same width trees as the wideglide but without the extra rake

The breakout also uses 49mm forks so that would be another option. All depends what you want it to look like. Whatever the look, stock harley front suspension is still pretty average handling wise even with the newer models

i think i'd get lost with all the options ;)
I'm on the sunshine coast also.. not sure of alot of frame specialists up this way..
I'm assuming i'd have to look at a Jap cruiser for something appropriate?.. not sure if that would also make the bike unsellable? Most HD guys won't touch a jap frankenstein? Most Jap guys won't touch a HD :)

John , old Super Glide Shovel Heads & sporty's ( real old one's ( Iron Head 4 speeds ) had the narrow glide only about 30mm. the 39mm are Mid Glide the 41 must be as big as an old wide glide's tubes.

Yep, before the 39s in late 80s? They were 35mm. Had the bulky square looking thing cast on the fork lowers. Thats as far as I know. The poster shouldnt even consider putting them on his bike though.

Perfect opportunity to put a springer front end on. There's one or two genuine ones on Gumtree at the moment I think

John that was a very early one, that same front was on all superGlides & sporty's till about 1988

I don't know if a wider tyre would work on a springer but the CVO springers run a wider wheel and tyre than the fxsts. Personally I like the big, skinny, spoked wheel on the springer front end to keep with the nostalgic style.
The ones on Gumtree must have sold but pop up from time to time. They had a black front end off a cross bones and a chrome front end too.

EBay item 163218403075 is a harley chrome springer front end. No wheel or anything

If you try to source and fit a Springer front end it will be a headfuck to the max. Can be done , but you need EVERYTHING...

Springer front forks/ Springer specific fender / early EVO type front brake caliper ( or exxy aftermarket substitute !) Springer axle/ Springer wheel / Springer bars and risers

I was "gunna" fit a complete 2010 FXSTC telefork front end to a 2008CVO Springer , located ALL the parts , still "too hard basket".

Eventually I found and fitted a 2009 Crossbones front end , NOT THE SAME as the CVO !, but was 80% the same part # numbers. Worked out quite well actually

I moved the whole telefork kit on 9 months ago sorry, whole kit and caboodle , even the 2010 brand new caliper and 21 inch front wheel and front fender etc etc

2007 CVO Springer had the "skinny" 21 inch front , 2008 and 2009 had an 18 inch front.

Haha. Girls throw their knickers at you on a springer.
