Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has had any similar faults as mine at the moment.
Had this engine sitting for about 4 years, just been rebuilt and now its failing to start. Currently not getting any spark (suspect ignition coil fault) because im getting the correct voltage to the coil pack but can't seem to see any spark when I earth the plugs (both front/rear leads).
I'm also thinking there may be a possible fault with the starter motor as well?
The below videos show cranking with and with out plugs (jumping from a 620cca battery whilst running the car) and I would have thought that the starter motor would have a bit more guts to crank it constantly. I've never really seen one that has struggled to turn an engine. either turns slowly(battery issue) or fails to spin.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Just trying to upload these videos but it wont let me paste a link or upload via this post....

Yes sorry I forgot to add,
This has had higher compression work done to it (previously) - cams, pistons, cylinders (not sure on head work)
EFI
No compression releases added
Yeah pumps priming, not sure on the codes thing at the moment as its on the stand and the harness is all connected.
My 2 main issues at the moment are the nil spark (testing the coil pack when I get to work tomorrow) and the slow starter motor when cranking.
Today was the cranking day ahaha, I just finish the rebuild. Usually you can just earth the plugs on the head and you should see a spark, I think I remember skimming past it in the manual as well.
I'm thinking i'v narrowed it down to this coil pack. I did some tests on it. Leads were in specs for the Resistance and then I did a primary and secondary resistance test on the coil pack
Primary resistance for the coil pack was in specs test 1 - 0.4 ohms and test 2 was 0.5 ohms (in specs)
and the secondary test was OL for both!
Hopefully I can pick a new pack up tomorrow and start this bitch
Need a spare set of spark plugsYou can lay the spark plugs on the heads and check for spark but you need to have a set installed to produce compression in each cylinder or ecm will not fire the plugs at the appropriate timeAs Hilly said, crank position sensor and increasing compression tell ecm when to fire each plug.no plug installed, no compression. no compression, no fire.
