Hi,
I know there are lots of such infomation around Internet already, but those answers have always been not 100% clear to me.

I am having 2013 Model Iron 883. I don't want a Breakout tyre on my bike just something a little bit wider than 150mm is fine.

My bike is having a 100mm front tyre and 150mm rear tyre atm, I think they are all stock size. I don't know the spec about the rim, I didn't find any marks on the rims. People mentioned on the Internet 883 is using 3" rim, I don't know what that means.

My question is,
what is the widest possible tyre I can have for rear that I can just put it on without changing anything on the bike? On the Internet, I found several different answers, some says 180mm, some says Shinko 777 170mm, some says you can only one size up, which is 160mm etc. anyone has real experience on your bike?

also, front tyre, how wider I can have without changing anything else?

just a followup incase someone else is interested,
a guy from youtube riding a 2014 Iron 883, he bought a 17 x 4.5 dyna rim and installed a 180mm rear tyre, no further modification. He has been riding 1000 miles + seems ok.

Pretty well anything is possible. You just need to make sure that the pulley and rear brakes are correctly lined up with spacers. I had an old FLHT (about a 130 rear) and put a Duece 150 rear on it. Maybe try some of the US Sportie forums to see what they have done

Yes you can fit a dyna wheel it obviously just has to have the tyre mounted the other direction and you might need to fit different bearings to bring the ID back down as the bearing ID is larger (in the later model dynas at least)
I was thinking about doing this with my sporty project as I have my stock street bob wheel just sitting around at home but decided against it

I have 160x70x17 on a 17x4.5 rim from 2014 Super Low. not much space left for a wider tyre and speedo is spot on now with the changed overall diameter too.

Anything is possible with enough mucking around!
I once stuffed a Pirelli Night Dragon 180 on a chrome 17x4.5 Deuce wheel under my 2007 883 Low after I chopped the fender and went to LED run/brake/turns. Had her on 10" shocks, was a cool ride. Have a Dyna now but still love the look of the 180 stuffed under the sporty. Had to muck around with spacers and put a bottle jack between rear struts to grab a few more mm of space. Dont think I could have gone to a higher shock even if i wanted to, as the thinnest part of the tyre was where it mounted to the rim, right where the rear struts were. It kinda all sat in the right place.

a shinko 170 rear will fit on your bike without any modification

Sorry for a late reply. Won't 170mm tyre scratch the belt fender? My 150mm tyre now does have some space, but it looks like longer than 1cm but shorter than 2cm (20mm).

I am worrying 170mm or 180mm tyre will scratch the belt fender. Is 48 and 833 exactly the same? My 150mm rear tyre does have space from fender, but looks like more than 10mm but lower than 20mm.

micathia, you can get them to fit by spacing, or spacers.
I don't worry as all it is for is pose or look's. I go for feel & thrill's & the skinny tyre feel's better.

i can't speak to the belt guard situation as i had removed the belt guard long before chucking the 170 on. i had no rubbing or touching otherwise though

I would not recommend removing belt Gard if you do a lot of riding as lets stones get between the belt and the drive teeth, does a lot of damage & will break a belt. wide tyres just for show. the bike won't feel better.

Each to their own. Put 80 thousand km on my sporty with no belt guard and rode all over WA without ever having an issue. I suppose all it takes is that one bastard stone though.

Yeh , can be lucky, I've seen them snap!! when the rev's go up & u see a black snake in your mirror's, your in trouble!!

LOL and worse still that black snake is oil from the crankcase after the over rev!
