Softail frame help - FXSTDI

    Hi All,

Just after some information from some of the gurus around here about fitment to frames.

So here is my situation. Im currently after a frame to suit a softail deuce FXSTDI (up to 2001 model) All the parts I have are to suit a fxstdi style frame. Ideally it would be best to get a 2nd hand frame but unfortunately it's pretty rare to find one for this model, only one I have seen so far is in America and it looks like the rear has been modified  (as youll see later in this post )

So first thing I have here is the actual frame part number/ parts break down for FXSTD Part number - 4887-00B  (But this company doesn't/will not ship to overseas customers for what ever reason)

So this is our benchmark of what the expected frame should look like.

Here is the 2nd hand frame, claimed to be from a 02 FXSTDI (from what i'm aware the change over year is 01-02 but from what I hear, there isn't any difference in frame mounting locations.) As you can see in the pictures, all of it is the same except it looks like they have modified the rear area, where the fender is mounted? This option, is also a bit unfeasible due to the seller refusing to set up any shipping

And finally I have come across this Kraft tech frame. After a bit of research, it seems this company is pretty reputable and their aftermarket frames are upto standards. So the k10065 Kraft tech frame is looking like the frame to buy, but this is where it gets tricky. Half of the sites that sell them say they are compatible with FXSTDI models and half explicitly say they do not suit.

After talking to one of the motorcycle technicians from JP cycles website, we concluded the frame should suit my standards but I'm still not 100% sure.
The thing that worries me is their website is stating that the frame is for stock rear tyre components of 130mm, but my tyre will be 180mm.

So basically after all of this, what im asking is.....

Can anyone tell me why exactly this k10065 frame will not be suitable for my FXSTDI Components, and if its only a matter of relocating tank mounts, then it shouldn't cause a drama? It's made to suit a twin 88b engine and driveline and to suit a stock swingarm as well.

Just an edit, I have noticed on the rear of the K tech frame that the fender mounts are not exactly the same as the softail (never took notice until I found this parts break down catolouge recently) and it could be possible that that's the only difference? A better view is

    Thank you all inadvance!!!!

I'm sorry to advise that you are in for the most complicated expensive convoluted process getting that deuce up and running let alone registered.
I do know that there are very few parts (cosmetic at least) that are compatible for the model.
That frame looks like the rear fender rails have been cut off to make it a bobber, then the build stopped. Ask yourself why. How do you think a frame would just present itself without the mechanicals, unless they burned in a fire. Sellers out there reckon their parts are worth top dollar.
You'd be spending your money on an 18 yr old bike, not even fuel injected. Please consider just looking around and buy yourself a runner. Flog the parts you have. Market awash with bikes. Good luck if you decide to proceed though.

Thanks hahah, you're right about parts being very particular for the deuce model, but it's the challenge I like, The only thing im after is just the frame specifics and that's it. I just need to know if this k10065 will be suitable for me and only require small modifications. Also this is an FXSTDI Engine.

All good mate, I definitely want to be 100% sure before I commit to a frame though,
