Springer conversion

Having searched our site I didn't find anything much on Springer conversions posted beyond 2010, I did like the pic below posted by Roadtrain in 2009, but not much info was provided other than it was a local bike.
So do any of you have any recent experiences with Springer front ends, there's a few brands out there nut I'm sure they're not equal.
I'd be converting a 2009 CVO Fat Bob. To get the geometry right I think it'll need 3 degree cups to get the rake to 32 degrees (as on CVO Springers) plus 3"overs, stock Harley length Springers are the same length as CVO Fat Bob forks but 1' lower than stock Fat Bob forks so 2' over stock should be fine.
    Any advice appreciated, Cheers.

Thanks Steve, yes they make a great product but only in 21 inch.

As you probably know already this is going to be an eye wateringly expensive undertaking. You will need the "Full Monty" of parts

I have rebuilt and replaced the front end on my 2008 CVO Springer ( thru' bent necessity !)

Actually went quite far down the road of converting the bike to Softail Custom teleforks and found all the parts necessary , most new bike take-off.

The fork set and 21 inch front wheel and fender came from a 2011 Softail Standard that the guy had had Frasers put a "2006" ( but new) Springer front end.

That exercise had cost him $5,500 and he lost his ABS in the process.

I had the teleforks/fender/front caliper/bars and risers/brake lines/axle/21 inch wire wheel etc etc

At the last mo' I redirected my efforts and put a Crossbones front end on my 2008 CVO Springer instead. Easier than the 2011 teleforks.

Came from 70 K's south of me in Perth from a 2009 Crossbones that had been built into a radical Custom ( and very nicely too !)

Still a wee bit of careful building required , using a proper Springer spring compressor tool. Following the genuine Springer manual AND you tube videos !!

Built them horizontal off the bike on a waist high table

I reused the stock CVO mag wheel and fender and caliper needing spacers and brackets made , all of which are now unseen when built.

Just after I was finished ANOTHER Crossbones front end came up 8 K's from my house , unbelievable ! That was June to December last year.

Best of luck with it and remember the Dyna front end has no grease nipple ability for the Springer neck bearings and LOTS more wee niggly differences !

I did look into the Meatballs Springer front ends in all chrome at the time , and was assured that they would bolt right up to my CVO Springer having been styled and designed off the Heritage Springer stock OEM front end from early 2000's

Thanks Dave, did the top and bottom trees stay at the same distance or did they end up being further apart with the Vulcan cups?

Hi Retro, thanks for your advice.
Good to hear you maintained your bike as a Springer, the 2008 models ride well compared to the 2009. The meatball springers look good but are too short so that rules out any stock length HD kit also.
I agree it will be costly and as I collect info, it’s looking more unlikely, cheers.

No probs Ratbob. Certainly that Wideglide Springer conversion in your photo looks well allright ! No Shocker I notice. US aftermarket no doubt.

The meatballs Springers were "copied" or based on the all chrome front end of the early 2000's Heritage Springers I was told.

Using the stock original CVO Fender and wheel and axle and brakeline and caliper etc etc was important to me hence why I did not go down the meatballs route.

Now the Crossbones front end I used was NOT 100% the same as the 2008 CVO Springer front , but very close , 80%+ the same part # numbers.

I had printed the exploded parts diagrams for both bikes , 2008 CVO Springer and 2008/9 Crossbones from Ronnie's HD site. INVALUABLE TO THE MAX !

Rake is a whisper different , Crossbones has marginally less so the bike "sits up" more. Still looks "factory" other than no chrome as it's all gloss black.

You are right , the 2008 Springer handles well ( for a 300+Kg lump!) , way better than the 2009 Or a Rocker OR a Breakout ( all 240 rear bikes !)
