    Hi all.

Haven't had a Harley for a few years, and thinking of getting another. I was hoping someone here may be able to tell me exactly what model the Harley in the pic I've supplied is.
I'm not right into what model is what, but it looks to me to be an early 90's FXRS. I really like the look, and just want to make sure of the model.
Can anyone assist, (and yes - it's a crappy scan from an old bike magazine - sorry ).

    Thanks,
    Peter

kiwidave, how did we know you would help with this subject? Good stuff, I"d say the FXR4 would be highly sought, would be my choice,  beautiful looking ride, but don"t know of any..
Thanks for your shared, hard earned knowledge Dave.
Appreciated as usual, by most of us.

It's definitely a 1983 FXRS,  the tank decals tell me it's an 83, the 82's tank decals had the words Harley Davidson in large letters, the FXR was plainer looking than the FXRS which had pin striping on the tank and mag wheels instead of spokes, this bike does not have the original exhausts or air cleaner , otherwise it appears original,
Today these bikes are quite rare, they only made FXR shovels in the 82 and 83 years, 84 onwards were evo's,

Yeah, you're right about the tank emblems. It's a 1983 FXRS.

Yeh, your right about the wheels, I think it probably had something to do with both, how the Aus importer spec'd the bikes, and what the Motor Company decided to deliver, I bought a new FXEF in '79, mag wheels, yet I know of others that came with spokes, go figure, different shipments different wheels,

But I'm pretty sure when you went from Plain Jane FXR to a Fancy Nancy FXRS you got the mags instead of spokes,

Far out......just checked back to see if I had a reply, and found heaps. Magic guys, thanks.
The last few days I've been looking around the early 90's models. Now I can adjust the search. I really like the stance on this thing. I've had it in an old mag for years, and kept it purely because I figured if I ever wanted another Harley, this might be worth looking at. I had an 09 FLSTN for a while, but not being a diehard, just wasn't sure what I was looking at.
There's a lot of good stuff I've found about the EVo motors. I've always been into old cars, and just ridden the bikes, not really built them. Are the shovel heads decent engines ? If I find something, I plan on riding it.....not locking it away.

    Thanks again by the way.

It's funny but when I look at later versions from the early 90's, they don't seem to have the same look about them.
That's why I kept that pic for so long.....I reckon it looks great. Mind you, I've just been doing some reading on the shovels and......sounds like they need a lot of love. I ride a fair bit, so might need to consider an EVo model. A nice one just sold in S.A this week.....1990 model FXR in great original condition on Gumtree.

And thanks for taking the time in your original reply. Really helpful.
