2008 Fat Bob Rear Wheel / Bearings Replacement

    Hi,
My Dads 2008 FXDF Fat Bob's rear bearings collapsed on the weekend while riding on the freeway and chewed out the inside of the wheel shaft.

It needs a new rim, axl, bearings, spacers, and possibly the sprocket, belt and brake caliber bracket. Totaling around $2,100 in parts alone according to a Harley dealer.

The bike only has 21,000km and hes had it since new so he is a little pissed but after a bit of research online it seems clear that Harley used crap bearings on the FXDF and this appears common.

Does anyone have any advice on other options for parts, i have search ebay and whatnot to find most but the rims seem rather expensive from everyone and its hard to find a second hand original FXDF rear rim.

Is there any other harley model rim that can fit the Fat Bob as other models wheels appear cheaper to buy?

    Thanks.

There was someone selling a pair of fat bob wheels pretty cheap on the various harley buy swap sell facebook pages.

Thanks Big Steve, I didn't think to heck there. Just found a post and messaged them.
Would still be good to know what other wheels are compatible though.

I've seen wheels from touring models fitted to fat bobs.

Big Steve I noticed some touring model wheels also have a 16x5 rim, are the axls the same size? Also they have a rubber bit between the rim and sprocket but I don't think that'll make a difference once fitted.

Check the US forum there are a few threads on fitting bagger wheels to a fatbob.
The rubber piece is the cush drive. I'm not sure when HD went to that set up.
