Vinyl wrap!

A few months ago I looked into getting the bonnet of my Landcruiser vinyl wrapped. I wanted to go with the black carbon fibre look so as to look a little different (it’d kinda work in with the black canvas canopy) and cut down on glare. Anyway, I opted to spend the money on lowering the bike etc instead. I think they quoted me $700 for the bonnet, a pretty reasonable price I thought.
So, I was just thinking about it then (as ya do when your crossing the Hay Plain for the 9th time in a fortnight) and got to wondering about whether anyone has wrapped their bike? I’d imagine it’d be fairly easy and super cheap compared to paint.
If anyone’s done it, how do you like it? Does it wear well? Would you do it again?

    Cheers B

Ps. I’m well happy with the matte denim colour I have now but wouldn’t mind that carbon fibre look.

I’ve heard that people get their bikes clear wrapped. Tanks fenders bags and top boxes.

Looking at getting my pannier lids done once the rain settles in for a week. I haven’t looked into it to much yet but is on the to do soon list.

Surely the heat on a bonnet from a motor would be similar?

To be fair, don’t all those vinyl wraps go a bit chatty after a bit of weathering?

I’ve just got back from a mates (not knowing about this post) and he showed me his Triumph Tiger which he had wrapped recently.
Matt finish for protection, said a local (Adelaide) guy does it, said it is replaceable when worn out. I’ll find out where it was done and if a carbon fibre look is available. Might take a few days.

Cheers for the input guys. I’m not sure I’d bother going to the trouble of wrapping only to protect but if that’s something folks are doing then it kinda says it’s not all that difficult.
And hmmm, yeah that’s a fair bit of heat. I’d say that heat from a car engine would be a bit less than what you can get from an air cooled bike on a warm day stopped at the lights but that’s something to suss our too :-)
I guess if it’s cheap and easy enough to do, you could just re-do it if it started to look a bit ordinary. And you could get a new look each time.
@Ratbob. Any more info about it would be great, especially seeing as it’s an Adelaide business. No rush at all. I’m not sure I’ll go thru with it yet. Just giving it some thought and seeing what others have experienced.

    Cheers again guys.

Thanks very much Odin. I didn’t realise it would be so easy a thing to get done :-)
If I go that way though, I’ll keep it within the community and go with Loftys mate first :-)

Cheers Lofty, much appreciated. There’s no rush as I’m just thinking about it at this stage. But I’ll definitely give him a call with some questions :-)

Ohhh hell. I hadn’t considered doing it myself. I might be tempted on the car but I reckon I’d make a mess on the tighter turns of a bike tank etc. Cheers for the info, Moz.
I’ll check out your videos when I pull up for a break :-)

Last month I did my Bonnet on my new Pajero Sport.
Did the Vinyl Wrap myself after watching videos on Youtube.
    It's fairly easy.
I purchased Satin Black from an Ebay Store.
I also did a 3 part video when I did it.
    The videos are here:
    Part 1
    Part 2
    Part 3

I also found a supplier and installer of Vinyl Wrap products in Bayswater, Melbourne if anyone is interested.

    Cheers
    Moz

Great video, and great job for a first attempt. Thanks for taking the time to create the video and sharing it, be nice to watch your progress to the end. Nice workshop btw, plenty of space.

Sorry for the delay, I didn't get the guys name but in SA the business is
    Winguard
    3 Lindfield Avenue
    Edwardstown
    Ph 83711156.
They have a web site with lots o pics but all cars.
Only got the info last night so I've not called them yet but a mate said they did his Triumph when they were at a different address so I assume they'll still do bikes.

Visited Winguard yesterday, nice set up, Tim reckons they can do bikes albeit reluctantly, I think there’s as much work in covering a bike as there is in doing a Lambo so it ain’t cheap. Can’t do carbon fibre lookalike.

Got a quote to get clear protective film on the batwing and pannier lids of the SGS.
    $800.00.
The guys work was very good. He had a 500k plus Rolls Royce that took 2 weeks to do and a BMW that was 1 of ten in Australia there, doing clear wraps.
