Buying a Super Glide (maybe)

Thinking of getting a super glide about '07' - '10' model, what should I look out for with the ol' dyna's. My budget will prolly mean I'm looking at higher mileage bike so anything that I should be forewarned about?

What is your idea of high mileage? And what is your budget?

I had a 2010 street bob. (Same bike just less chrome). Had relatively no issues with it in 3 years and almost 100,000km. It started using oil and we put that down to a poor tune from the dealer and using HD oil. My current bike rus a better tune and I service it more frequently with Motul and spectro oils. It doesn't use a drop with nearly 50k on it.
    In terms of common issues:
    - From memory the 07 models had issues with the inner primary bearing failing?
    - The 06 models had issues with the cam chain tensioners prematurely wearing wearing out (all good if you convert them to newer style) just check because your 08 might be an 07.

If it is high mileage I'd ask if the cam chest has been opened at all. (FYI I had 90,000km on orginal cam chain tensioners when i sold my bike)

Again if its high mileage (50K or higher) look at the belt/pulleys for wear. My 2010 needed a belt, both pulleys and primary bearings/seals etc at about 85,000km

IMHO 2010 was a great year for dynas, there are plenty to be had (Street bobs, Superglides, fat Bobs, Wide Glides) of that vintage with 10-20k on the clock for around $15-18K

Thanks Steve all good information. I'm thinking my idea of high mileage is around 90K... less would be ideal but not so likely to be in my price range. Hoping to get a project bike out of it post a Hammer upgrade to my 883

I'm expecting normal wear and tear items may need replacing belts pullys etc. but if I luck in regular maintenance may have covered some of these items. A clean bike may be an indicator that the bike has been shown some love, ah the pitfalls of buying used.

Hey Rodders that’s the same seat I had trouble from HD Aust with.  After three seats that didn’t fit or were damaged I gave up, yours looks good.

From the pictures it looks a good bike. Got a few extra's - bags, shocks , chrome fork lowers (probably about $1500 to $2000's worth) as well as reasonably low KLMs. To me the big thing is servicing particularly oil changes which they seem to have had done - I normally look to around 4000 klm for my oil changes whereas they seem to indicate they have done them every 10,000 klm (I am sure others will chime in on this).
Certainly worth a look and remember it is a buyers market so I would be shy about making an offer.

PS make sure u do all the rev checks type reports to make sure no finance / not a write off etc

I've done a lot of K's looking at bikes, much fewer riding them.... and there are some really crappy bikes out there and a few good'uns and occasionally some thing neat and not too pricey. Thoughts on 2012 custom. Seems to be looked after n clean just need to check the history and scrapes into my price range ....just.

Not as beautiful as Rodders ride but it is OK, only the one owner.

I dont know why exactly but it seems the dynas ride a bit better than the softies, although it's horses for courses. I just dont seem to be as comfortable throwing a soft tail about as a dyna.  Low Rider has to be the best ride so far but they all seem to be under a blanket in the shed rotting or too bloody expensive. Anyhow PPSR search has come back clean on this 'un.

Not sure what is going on here, I dont particularly want saddle bags so maybe some rejigging would be needed to tidy this up. Indicator repositioning....

That looks like a nice clean super glide.
I just picked up another fatty, a nice clean 2010 to turn into a hot rod.
