Thanks for the feedback fella's [yes it was speed], and yes whilst the range had some nice twisty's, no joy in the fog! No way I'd do it at night even on four wheels!

Planning now for a trip to the "Rock" from Brisbane in March of next year, anyone interested let me know [early days yet]!

    We'll try to coordinate something???

    Cheers and Beers

Late last year the board of the Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park announced that the climb up Ayers Rock would be officially banned from October 26, 2019. Parks Australia and the board argue the climb needs to be closed for safety and cultural reasons.

    Thanks Sonny

Do plan the ride prior to the closure, but take on board what you say re: time of year!

Thinking I might renege on March and instead head south to Canberra [war museum etc], then head west in July/August???

Is March a good time of year for Canberra??

Start of Autumn, nice time of year in Canberra, starting to cool down a bit especially at night. Good riding temps for sure.
Might have to plan a group ride to the rock before the ban, what say you ??

    Hi Ken

    Thanks for the reply!

I'm still flexible with dates for 2019, be great to get a group from Bris. to meet you northern folk (FNQ & Central Qld) in Rockhampton for a ride west to the rock!

No worries. Sounds like a plan ??
I might start a trip thread after I look at my swing dates.
I would take the inland route via emerald to stay of that bloody coast highway.

    Ken

Sounds like a loose plan, just looking at some maps, maybe Emerald is a good starting point? Then west to Mt Isa and over into NT??

Might be a 2 day [pub] ride from Brisbane to Emerald, just did that in reverse so to speak from Mackay just recently.

Know a good biker friendly motel in Emerald!

    Cheers and Beers

I didn't stay in Emerald just passed through. If I was going to Mt Isa I would be backtracking fron Cairns if I went via Emerald, but might be worth it to drop into Longreach to visit the Qantas museum, and head home the shorter northern route.
Thinking around end of August 2019, looks like I'll be off around the 14th at this stage. Cooler weather and the dry season.
You free camping or staying in motels etc ?
I would probably need to do more of the former to keep the costs down.
I'll do a bit of route planning and put up a new thread.
