PaulT, gather this is a softail frame'd M8? Are you screwing the trans dipstick in until it just touches the O ring? This is the procedure for checking/adjusting the tourer box's oil level. These chromed dip sticks are very hard to read also mate, but reckon the redline would show up a lot  easier.

hey Doc yeah a 2018 Fat Boy, I'm screwing it in all the way to the o-ring. The gear box is still really clunky even with the Redline in it. It literally slams into first gear like its going to break something.  I wonder if its the clutch adjustment, the lever has over a centimeter of free play....

should have looked at your avatar hey ;) In all honesty mate, get your dealer to look at it, may be as simple as you said - adjusting the clutch cable freeplay. My M8 SGS is actually pretty smooth most of the time, just take it a bit slower on selecting gears when pulling in the clutch helps, but definitely doesn't clunk into gear like somethings going to break. I bought the factory manual for mine from the dealer, cost about $70 from memory, the manual part number should be in the back of your owners manual if interested.
    Nice bike btw.

Oh I put the avatar up after your reply :o)  Yeah I'll pop into the dealer tomorrow. I have another thread on here about a 114 fat bob loan bike I took one day from the dealer and the gear box was as slick and smooth as any Ducati and I'm not exaggerating. I don't know how the same engine and gear box can be so different in the two bikes.  Thanks I love this bike so much it hurts.....

gap between the lever and the perch

ok,think thats a bit much, adjust it back to 2-3 mm and try that ,if it works well [ for a quick test] then find the factory spec and fine tune it.cheers

Nice buke PaulT.   I have the same bike but the 107 model.   I have just bought the same slip ons too.   Which baffle are you using?   Standard or Competition?.   Anyway I hope you get the clutch cable sorted.   My gearbox clunks into first when cold but smooths out once its at running temp.   I do have a little bit of clunky-ness on occasion.   Perhaps an oil change might help in my case or maybe I need to slow down the gear changes a bit.

Thanks Stew, I think its standard baffling in the pipes, got a really nice note, not obnoxiously loud but you sure know I'm there.
