I have a set of used 585 cams for sale, they have only done around 2000 k's. The reason for changing them was that my engine wasnt setup to suit them. They are best run with 10.5 or less pistons. I am chasing $250 for them cheers Steve.

Count me out thanks, I'm interested in the SE585.
The S&S585 intake closing at 45 degrees wouldn't work too well in my stock 110.
    Cheers

Guess you know that cams are a whole subject on their own. To me the S&S 585 with an intake closing of 45 ABDC (after bottom dead centre) needs 9.7 to 10.5 comp pistons and better valve springs. I also reckon the lift of .585 is too high and creates unnecessary wear.
It’s figures are much like the SE211 cam but for me the 211 with a lift of .508, is better suited to a 103 but would still need higher comp pistons, so they both power style cams and like to rev. All depends if you want a torque or power cam and what other work you are prepared to do.

Hi mate what's comp ratio of a standard 103 let's say in a dyna?

Not suited to a stock or stage 1 103 at all. That cam needs 10.5 comp to work well because the intake close timing.  103 comp is 9.6 from memory. It'd result in a gutless ride until higher in the rev range.  The lift isn't an issue as lots have run that cam with oem valve springs including myself, but it's nearing the limit

Yep the published 103 comp is 9.6.
If you're looking at cams but don't want to do other work you can install the cam using a 4 degree advanced key which say on an SE585 cam will give an intake closing of 32, only 2 degrees later than a stock 103 but it gives higher lift, more duration (overlap) = better breathing.

For example I've attached a dyno of that cam in a otherwise stock 110, (yes it's a different spec engine to the 103) not a massive gain but the cam change was the only engine work and flattens the tourque curve.

You would need pistons to up the comp to use them i think

Just waiting to see Fred when i pick the bike up either tomorrow or Friday. I want to make sure they are still pretty much perfect. I'll let you know as soon as I do Hilly and you will have first option on them. On a side note the 594's I replaced the 585's with have made 125 hp and 126 fpt.
