Glowing pipes

Just bought a  2017 heritage classic and had a set of V&H big shot longs installed as well as a heavy breather.  Bike came with the Screaming Eagle Super Tuner PRO.  Ran the bike at idle with a few short bursts to hear the pipes in the driveway for aprox 5 to 10 minutes and noticed the exhaust pipe under the chrome shroud was glowing cherry red.  Rang the dealer and was told that it s normal if the bike is left idling for a while as its air cooled. Interested if anybody else has noticed this or if its normal or a sign of a lean mix. Cheers.

If you did the test during the day the pipes must have been bloody hot to see a cherry glow in daylight, so yeah somethings wrong.
As the bike came with a Supertuner I assume it already had mods to warrant the cost of the tuner.
Can you tell us what you replaced, i.e. was it a stock filter or an SE filter in the stock housing etc.
What pipes came off, i.e. SE or S&S slipons or something else?
Does the engine have any other mods?

This should help reveal whether you really need a tune.  There's not many standard tunes available on the Supertuner software but there's one for your bike with an SE or CVO Filter and SE exhausts, not saying it's perfect but it's free and would help diagnose the issue, you can always reflash the old tune if it's different.  If you or a friend has the cables, the tune number is 621BBH254.

curious...do you have the same amount of pressure/exhaust gas coming from each pipe, hold your hand over the ends.

I always thought that means it's badly tuned, running lean?

Yeah they probably flashed it with the tune I mentioned. If you like tinkering get the tuner cables and learn the tuning process. Guys like Hilly breeze through this stuff but it took me ages to learn the basics.
If not, let us know where you are and the Forum experts will soon recommend a good tuner.

Bill here is a simple fix for you, wont cure the tune but manage the current situation for you. Your bike has EITMS (engine idle temp management system) standard. So start the bike let it run for a few seconds now turn the throttle backwards as if throttling off, hold it there for a few seconds and you will now notice that your cruise control light has flashed to green. Release the throttle and the EITMS is now active. This is now allowing the bike at idle to reach a factory set or tuner set determined temp then will progressively do the following, decrease idle speed, INCREASE Fuel (richen up) mixture and then cut out the rear cylinder completely. As soon as you touch the throttle all functions are overridden and away you go to the next set of lights where if it gets hot enough the process repeats.

Glowing cherry red your bike is running super lean from the extra air your engine is now able to pump......needs dyno tuning to add the right fuel at all rpm’s...or, you have an exhaust leak.....I’m sure others have said similar.....

    Hi Poppybill
As no one's chimed in with a tuner, do a forum search for "Recommended engine tuner in Victoria- Melbourne" there's a thread from 2017 with a few recommendations.
    Cheers
