Hi all just wondering if anyone can tell me how much the import tax would be on $1650 USD in goods coming into Aus

Steve, it all depends on the origin of the goods, if the goods were made in the USA they will incur no import duty at all. If the goods were made in another country the import duty can vary, but typically it is around 5%.
Australian customs will however charge you GST based on the invoice price.

Not sure about gear from Europe,
I bring in a weekly shipment from the USA, and typically any import duty for goods with an origin outside of the USA is about 5%.
That said I know there are different tariffs, depending on what the goods are. Have copped a lot of questions lately from my customs clearing broker about parts containing asbestos.

I bring in goods related to the concrete/ masonry industry, for one off personal stuff, I use a different company for freight forwarding. It's a real PIA from a customs broking point of view to mix personal goodies with my business gear.
I don't have details with me at the moment Steve, but happy to fwd them to you in the morn. The mob i I use for personal purchases will consolidate my orders and send them all at once to me.

They don’t get everything that comes in, I was importing guitars for years.. about 1 in 3 would get through without customs!
But like they all said. Item$ +5% + shipping$ + 10% GST on all that combined.

+ paperwork charge + (occasionally depending on the item) fumigation charge + 2% for paying with a credit card... which is the only option.

And the government tells us they are going to start done by this on EVERY parcel coming to Australia

    Bwahahaha

Is the $1000 limit in Aud or Usd, surely it wouldnt include the freight would it. Im looking at bringing it in 2 lots to keep the purchase price down for each shipment.
