Hey peeps my 2000 Fatboy flstf has an issue where whilst riding my Speedo and odometer stops working once I get to about 30 kms but everytime I stop it comes back to life...I have also noticed on start up that the odometer glitches out really badly..it comes up with a d08see code and also a CAL04 code...I've taken out the Speedo sensor and wiped it clean but it still does it..I've got a brand new battery also...makes it hard for distance as it diesnt record kms...have been told it could either be the speeo sensor or voltage regulator... The bike runs fine apart from this...Any help would be really appreciated..thanks in advance

Thanks mate...do you know what the d08see and CAL04 codes mean? I have read that the CAL 04 means the speedometer needs to be calibrated? Tia

So checked everything out  all ground wires..oil on stator wires etc and all is good.. The problem is still occuring but not as long now..On cold start up the odometer flickers on and off until I decrease the choke(once bike is warmed up) then on take off Speedo works until gets to 40kms then both odometer and speedometer still working...does that every time I stop and take off for roughly 15kms then bang all of a sudden comes to life and works normally like it should!! While it's warm it works perfectly...also when indicating while cold it glitches out the odometer...but as I say after roughly 15 kms of riding It works just as it should...any ideas please?? Tia...

Hi I know this is a long time between but someone else might read this with the same problem my 01 periodicity have the Speedo stop I don’t know what the cause was but I fixed it  by reving The engine right up high for a second and that seems to reset the Speedo I know sounds crazy but it works for me cheers

fathee01 , that is a carb bike,  change gear box oil sraight after a ride when oil is warm. see if you have much metal in gear box oil ( but don't panic if you have some ) also buy a new speedo sensor ( it is located right side gear box but check your workshop manual ) I think your probably getting metal from gear box oil, on your sensor, some clean them but better to replace with new sensor. that should fix your speedo problem.

Weird stuff can happen with speedo's.   I was riding along one day in an 80 zone and glanced at the speedo and it was reading  double.  Nearly shit myself !
Jumped on the brakes and I was still doing 120.  Pulled over at the next opportunity and switched it off for a minute . Got back on the bike and it was back to normal. Never done it since.   2002 fatboy  ( fuel injected )
