    Happy Friday gents,
It's rough and ambiguous, but we know there are official written form of regulation & compliance rules for modifying handlebars, exhaust, fenders and all important numberplates by rta & adr.

Now, Does anyone know know if there is a rule like this written for the rear turn signals? Particularly the later HD signals with built it brake lights?
I want to do this. (See pic below) In NSW.

Let me know please, not interested it "I've heard this from somewhere..." or "in VIC..." etc thanks.

Thank you, appreciate your time and would love to hear your experiences and thoughts.

HaHa. Gee Mr JHL. You're a demanding pain in the arse aren't you.
Must confess it used to piss me off reading what's your problem threads in bike and computer forums and looking for an ANSWER, the number of people who instead of shutting up and waiting, ADDED their own long winded similar problems as though that would somehow aid and speed up the process.
FFS one of you C's out there must be able to help JHL.

Vehicle standard F2005L04012 explains it all. There was an update in 2016 I believe.

Rule 5.6 is what you are after.

Like I said in another thread, if you want to play "modified motorcycles" get ready for police attention legal or not.

The lighting requirements including things like positioning are all listed in the ADR book.

    Boom.
6.3.3.3. in length: the forward distance between the centre reference of the rear indicators and the transverse plane which constitutes the rearmost limit of the vehicle’s over-all length shall not exceed 300 mm.

There, we go, can't be done. Just had to be pedantic because I wanted to be sure than sorry later.

Thanks for the link guys. You just saved me a lot of grief.

Part of the fun of customising is not giving a toss about the rules.  Form over function or regulation is the real rule of customising.  Unless you're looking at producing bikes for sale.  I built a custom Sporty years back which had many compliance issues.  Number plate was almost horizontal, fenders were chopped well below limits, no speedo.  For a long time I rode it around without a front fender (or brake, bad idea).  In the end I just made a decent effort to comply.  I rode that bike around for 6 years and I never got stopped once.  I had no problem selling it either.  If the cops really want to defect a bike, they can get any one of us for pipes.

Its odd....For my FXR which I had to put over the pits to get a RWC from VicRoads all i have for rear lights is a bulb shoved into an old 35mm plastic film canister with some amber cellophane stuck on the inside.
That passed both the RWC and the Vicroad inspection - mind you they were bloody bright and worked a treat; but technically failed on about 3 ADR rules.
