Currently under restoration back to stock.

lucky bloke, would love one of these, but out of my reach as most for sale are restored or in top original condition and the asking prices are a bit on the hot side for me.the sound of these on a 3-1 is magic.

It has an 850 Route kit, big cams and other hot rod stuff, its going completely back to stock, even shouting it a new set of Amals.

Yes Bruce, all back to stock, everything except the ignition that will be a Tri-Spark that are made in Adelaide [if you have a pommy bike these ignitions are a must]
I have a stock bore barrel and pistons that are like new, there will be a lot of updates that have been developed over the years that make one of these things a different bike to what was manufactured in the day, a lot of these updates are machine and assembly procedures that guys have worked out over the years,,i have just finished doing the brakes which involved material, set up and machining procedures that were not used in the past that will work better than new.

Just in the engine alone, there is different valve train set up that reduces valve guide/stem wear to minimum, bore finish and ring type will be current, crank balance update, cam setup for optimal timing and some modern coatings applied.

I bought the R3 from BJ's in 83, it was my main road bike while i was building my XR, it did a lot of country miles and was great at speed, just hopeless around town.

    Cheers.

Hey Hoodengy, just on a note of the BSA Rocket 3. In the early 70s I was a stock records clerk for J.N.Taylors in Adelaide. Bought a new XL250 Honda Motorsport from them for $678.00
Adelaide had a myriad of motorcycle shops scattered within the CBD, and I would browse every lunchtime in these shops, as I had while going to school in town. Anyway, I came across a beautiful blue BSA Rocket 3 one day for $850. I raced back to work and looked up the parts available for her, and was disappointed to find that we, the stockist for Triumph, BSA, Norton, Greeves, with the new Honda models coming in, plus there were other makes, can't remember,  had a couple of valves only for the rocket 3, anything else in those day,s I would order from the UK, which took a minimum of six weeks. I bought an XS1 650 Yamaha, unfortunately. I did have a BSA A10 at the time, embarrassingly metallic purple with a squeeze horn, god can still smell the oil from those British bikes still now. specially when going into those old motorcycle shops.
If you can keep the Rocket reno updated,as sure many of the crew on here are interested, and reminiscing too. thanks.

So Ballofski, you were the Telex guy!!!  you have a lot to answer for!! i was one of those customers that waited for millennia for parts, yes, it was the standing joke back then when we were told the Telex had been sent and now for the legendary wait.[we were never told who the Telex guy was,we thought it was bullshit] We even had to wait for points and condensers which these bikes had an appetite for,,until,, i found Hannan bros around the corner, the Lucas stockist for Adelaide had stacks of them at half the price.
I bought a  Bonneville 650 V in 73 so was a regular visitor, I bought a Sportster in 75 when it had changed its name to 'International motorcycles' same guys on the counter and same service, i still see Speedy, Bluey and have contact with Billy Horsy.

A lot would not know that one of the big influences on old mate Johnny Trease's engineering was his early R3.
I remember on Saturdays being in Bernies bar in Rundle st when an old guy used to idle down the road with what must have been his grandson on the back every week, fell in love with them then, then in the mid seventies a mate bought one and gave me a ride, that was it i was hooked. I have had Harley's since 75 but there has always been a triple in the shed.

So you would have been around when 'Uncle Tom' 'Fat Peter' 'Huey Dunlop' and 'Mitchel' were lightening wallets? i nearly bought a BSA Y13 engine and trans from uncle Tom for $15 in 71,i had plans of building a chopper out of it,check out the price of one now.

    Cheers mate.

Beside Streetbob, I have a 2000mdl xjr1300 Yammy that I have owned for 16years that mostly gets used as work hack. Strong, reliable, not as likely to get pinched while I'm at work & a good rider. Also a 1999 TL1000s Suzi vtwin 1000 just for fun. Was cheap and disposable if need be, and it's a beast with an awesome note. Looking for another Harley at the moment as I wrote off Bob on a country road courtesy couple of farm dogs. Looking for low km Dyna in Vic for around 15k to replace the king of the garage. Let's not forget the "87 Postie that I cruise the back lanes (No Rego)

Oh oh, Hoodengy, no that guy was my brother, that worked a J.N's, I wished I had a brother to allay the fickled finger..

Yeah, not there for too long, as started chasing money, but did enjoy working there, so much I'd leave home at around 6 or 6.30 am to start at 9.00 am. I road my motorcycles  through the Adelaide hills, on the way from West Beach- home, to Adelaide south work on various bikes , as you do...Hooked then.
The guys that came in didn't bitch too much, although I tried never to serve the dude that came in displaying a  revolver under his cutoff/leather jacket, not you I hope. lol. Remember, a few Hendrix, Speedy, oh shit too long ago, but can picture them, Reg Pettman was my manager, I still have a reference he wrote me. My nickname was Weed, for some reason. I left before Harley equation, unfortunately.

My other bike is a 1996 Yamaha TT600 Belgarda.

Jeeze mate, I bought my first Harley at Taylors, think it was 1974/5, a slightly used 1974 XLH.
Yet another bike I wish I’d kept.

They're slow by today's sports bike standards but still bloody fast and fairly hard to come by now. Nobody wanted the white ones when I bought mine, it's 2002 plated and was still in the shop brand new in 2004, the dealer had two of them.
I still like the SP-1 as well, seeing one of them go past made me ditch my Firestorm for the SP-2. It's a shame you had to let your SP-1 go speedzter.
