Two new Sportster models have been released, the Iron 1200 and 48 Special. Iron 1200 is a good idea, most other changes are cosmetic. Ape hangers, fairing on the Iron, 70's paint scheme. Still no core changes like a 6 speed gearbox!
Price on the Iron 1200 is $16,495. A decent price for a 1200. Although the Iron 883 is $15,995, only $500 between 883 and 1200. I know which one I'd buy. I suspect they may get rid of the 883. Price on 48 Special is $18,995, same as standard 48.

I prefer alloys to spoke wheels. All depends on the style of alloy though. Some look nasty like the 80's style ones on the new Sport Glide. But some look great, like the ones on my 1200C. I much prefer the look of those on the new 48 to the Iron. Spokes are hard to clean, they're hard to fix flats on. Not a hard thing to switch out in any case.

Yeah but is the weight difference really an issue. A good feed and a few beers would be the equivalent.

Not that I’m looking at one, but I like the look of the new sporty 1200. Nice. Prefer the original 48.

Wow the design department must have had some serious inspiration to come up with these Models.
Hmmm, New paint and wheels! Oh and lets give them some new handlebars..Genius
or are they just trying to get rid of the spare parts from the Sportster factory before they close it down?

Hmmm. Why does this feel like the last gasp of the Sportster? Recall that Harley loaded up the Dyna with everything on the Low Rider S for the end of 2016 and 2017, then...no more Dynas. Maybe this is Harley throwing all the parts in the parts bin at the Sporty one last time.....

I like the paint on the iron 1200! remind me of hd paint in 1974 amf years.
I like the look of spoke wheels , just find polished stainless spokes look better clean easier than stock ones. also spoke more robust than cast alloy. but can understand why people prefer mags, just no matter, no mag looks good on a bike to me ( personal thing )
hd would be having a very hard time , as they fight to keep tradition & meet immission control's. also as we all know the riders that grew up on Harley's getting older by the year and less of then . like asking kids to throw a smart phone away go back to using road side phones they look classic.

Completely agree TC. I saw that video too by Matt Laidlaw, I think he's on the money. I'm not sorry to see the current Sportster go, I think it's time to update it. I'm glad I've got one and I intend to keep it for a least the next few years.

What HD should do is put the Sportsters engine in a Big Twins frame, win win,

I would not have an idea what Harley will do. but not sure if it has been posted. with all the talk ( politically ) about tax's this way or that way , country to country. has the HD's prices changed for new model's?

They should of bought out another Sportster with the 12.5 litre peanut fuel tank.
The existing peanut tanks are too small.

Oops, better eat my words.
Turns out that the 1200 Iron come with a 12 litre fuel tank.
It's pretty much a Nightster :)

Have you seen one in the flesh?
I went into my local dealer to have a look and they said they won't have one until late March, maybe early April.
