I see Harley is to close the Kansas factory by july 2019, moving production to York pa. Is that the only place that sporties come from? it also built dyna models so that could be part of the reason it is closing.

Just saw HD state they will have a electric bike to market in 18 months. Maybe HD will sell their own branded solar panels to help with charging!
Plenty of new models incoming which is fine by me as not a fan of the new ‘Softails’.

I've been told that Harley have built an additional manufacturing building in Pennsylvania, taking advantage of Trumps tax relief on new infrastructure.
But I agree, I think it's the beginning of the end for the Sporty.

How about also making bikes that people want to buy.  Harley is the new Holden as far as I'm concerned.  They continue to make more of the same, and the new bikes they're making aren't hitting the mark.  The competition is making better bikes.  You can only trade on nostalgia and brand loyalty for so long.

Bikesales are down world wide including Aust. Every brand has suffered...
Well Harley has done it again, best selling road bike in Aust again. Street 500 sold 1182 bikes a 29% fall over last year but still the best selling bike. Second was Breakout with 1150 bikes a 23% fall over last year. Top LAMS bike was a WR450F with a Street 500 second . Overall the market slipped 9.3% or nearly 11000 bikes fewer than 2016.

Harley do some strange things......is anyone aware that the Asia Pacific head office is in Singapore. They make decisions on our market regarding volume models etc. Not sure why they would pick Singapore

    Singapore you say?
Then it was probably chosen because it is 'business friendly' aka low tax

Agree with above; lots of multinationals using Singapore for transfer pricing
Re the Thailand factory intended for sales to Se Asia, is Australia part of that Se Asia?

Quality is the key part here PB. HD is changing the factories — no more wheels from Adelaide. What else will change in the future?
I can live with assembly/some manufacture in places like Thailand (Triumph, Toyota make it work after all) .... but I still maintain the ‘quality’ of the HD product made in India isn’t up to the same standards as elsewhere. And I would be concerned if more of this second rate stuff (for lack of a better way to say it), becomes the norm.

Next thing you know they still want $35,000+ for a bike that they are making cheaper in Asia.

Wait and see on that score. They’d want to get the balance right.

PB, I’m not saying the price will drop if made in Asia. But I do believe the allure of a $20-30,000 HD made in South or South-East Asia won’t be as compelling as one from the good ol USA (even if parts are Asian).

Saying all that, I don’t think it will be HD’s business model. Being US made, for the bigger more expensive bikes, is too important.

I understand what your saying its my belief that in the future all HD , triumph etc will be assembled in Asia. So if you want one in the future you will be paying the increased price for a not built in America HD. You have noticed how triumph dont freely admit your new Trumpy  may come from Thailand.....HD will be the same, the changes will be by stealth. You want a USA built bike soon its going to be Indian

I think the way its going HD buyers are dying and the young kids are not buying the product. Lots of bikes now have digital displays , iphone apps to tell you all sorts of useless info and people are lapping it up in droves. Look at car radio today...
